Users can sign up to assist Google in testing Andriod P through the Andriod beta program. However, some phones are now beginning to receive the Android P update on their phone.

Features of Android P

New Dashboard to Limit Phone Addiction

There’s a new dashboard in Andriod P which details the time you have spent on your tablet or phone within a day, the number of notification you have received, how many time you unlock your device and the apps you use the most. This is part of Google’s new health and safety initiative, which focus on helping users to curb the excessive use of smartphones.

Gestures

There are new look and navigation method. Instead of threesome buttons along the bottom of the screen, each one signifies a different navigation method, Andriod P makes use of gestures. When it’s enabled, user can swipe up to check recent apps and also view app suggestions. A swipe to the right or left on the new single button will help user to switch between applications.

157 New Emoji

The June update to Andriod P comprises of 157 new emoji, which will be available in the final build of Andriod P when it is released to the public. New emojis include a gender-neutral family and a superhero.

App Actions

Another AI feature is known as ‘‘App actions’’. This learns about the common tasks you complete at a particular place, time or when an add-on is connected to your device. Such as when you connect your Bluetooth headphones, App Actions will suggest a playlist for you.

How Is It Better Than Android O

  • Until Android Oreo, quick settings and status bar were a single entity but Android P separates the quick settings and status bar.
  • Android P has several new features that have polarized its user base. One of such feature is the new navigation system and this is different from previous versions.
  • Android P brings the new navigation system that has no recent key on devices with capacitive keys. It also marks the decline of the recent app key.
  • When you hold the power button, you now get a screenshot option. This is easier than pressing the power button and volume down key.

What Phones Will Get It?

Andriod P is compatible with devices which are outside Google’s products. Devices from Xiaomi, Vivo, Nokia, Oneplus, Sony, Oppo and Essential can install the Andriod P.
