Top Pakistani Dramas of the Season: #3 Ghughi

Our third favorite drama is Ghughi, that is based on Amrita Pritam’s novel/film “Pinjar”, and is currently airing on TVOne.

What’s so great about it?
The production quality, performances, strong dialog and gripping storyline is a great reason to start/binge watch Ghughi.

What’s it about?
Ghughi starts with the abduction of Inayat Bibi (Farah Tufail), a Muslim woman abducted by Shahokars (loan lenders) who are Hindu. Inayat Bibi’s brother commits suicide after jumping into a well and their family moves to another town. Many years later, as Inayat Bibi has gone insane and her nephew Rasheed (Adnan Siddiqi) has all grown up and now they’ve basically told him to take revenge from Shahokaar’s family by abducting Nimmo (Amar Khan) to bring dishonor on the family. Nimmo and her family have newly moved to this town and soon she is betrothed to Tek Chand (Hamza Firdos). Nimmo has a no-nonsense brother, Sukh Chand (Haris Waheed) who is betrothed to Tek Chand’s sister. Rasheed falls in love with Nimmo and abducts her the night of her wedding. Nimmo’s family replaces Nimmo with Shakuntala and weds her to Tek Chand. Tek Chand doesn’t know any of this, but he had fallen in love with Nimmo after meeting her, and is very upset that it is Shakuntala he has been married off to and not Nimmo. Both Sukh Chand and Tek Chand are convinced that Nirmala is alive but Nirmala’s family has insisted that Nirmala has died of a snake bite. Nirmala returns one night to her home after Sheeda drops her off but her family (mainly her parents) tells her to go away. Sheeda finds her again and does Nikah with her. He brings her to his home and Sheeda’s mother is horrible to Nimmo. In return, Sheeda takes Nimmo and starts living elsewhere. This is the plot until 11th episode.
