How Do Mobile iGaming Apps Stack up Against Desktop?

There was a time when there was an obvious distinction between mobile and desktop. For even the most casual observer of technology, however, it’s clear that there have been some mind-blowing changes over the past few years. Both quantity and quality of devices have advanced to the degree that they have drastically affected the way that we conduct both business and pleasure. It can even be a little bit confusing sometimes.

In the last decade, mobile devices have become more popular than desktop computers. One sector in which this has clearly proven to be the case is iGaming. After their much-publicized success inline, it was always going to be just a matter of time before these games would be made available on mobile devices.

Trend towards mobile

Game creators develop mobile apps as standalone applications to be used for casino games that have to be downloaded online through either an App Store or a website. One of the recent developments is new online keno game Kenoland, the latest offering from Lottoland, which gives players a chance to win a possible £10mn every four minutes. It’s available both through the App Store and Google Play, and have announced that a desktop version is on its way. The fact that the apps were released before the desktop version is quite telling – apps seems to be where brands place their focus nowadays. Mobile, in fact, accounts for 20-98 percent of iGaming, with an average of 65 percent mobile versus 35 percent of the Web, according to a 2015 study from relationship marketing hub Optimove. The report further revealed that the trend towards mobile in the sector was advancing at 1.5 percent, year-on-year.

Entertainment value

Desktop has certain benefits, of course; screen size being an obvious one. For those who enjoy a big screen, it’s hard to beat desktop for entertainment value. Another advantage for desktop is battery life, as mobile devices drain faster when using the amount of processing power it needs to run iGaming apps. A battery pack will handle this issue, however.

Any time, any place

There’s been a significant increase in mobile gaming, largely due to three main reasons: the expanding millennial audience who are more accepting than other sectors when it comes to technology, the impressive content and features of such games as Candy Crush and Pokemon Go, and the advances in development that goes into creating these games. Another plus point for mobile gaming is the freedom, flexibility, and convenience that it provides. Gamers can enjoy playing anywhere at any time, which is, again, particularly pleasing to the younger generation.

While desktop purists will be around for a while yet, technology advances in mobile devices will ensure that any advantages in using desktop will become less significant. That’s particularly true with you consider that mobile Internet speeds are set to increase with the upcoming launch of 5G. For now, we can sit back and enjoy the ride; but no matter which future we’re headed towards, it appears to be a mobile-centric one. That goes for iGaming, too.
