SanDisk Introduce A New Generation of USB Storage

The way we store files and data has changed so much in recent years. Some readers might be old enough to remember floppy disks, or if you’re in your late 30’s like me, you might even recall cassettes being used. That has all changed now and in this decade everyone is using cloud-based storage systems, even when we might not realise it. So, you might think that’s the most advanced method or storing and accessing data and there aren’t many more advancements that can be made, except flash drives are becoming increasingly sophisticated and there’s still a lot of new developments to come with them. SanDisk have two such devices that are utilising the most recent technology to change how we transport, access and share files and media using USB sticks.

SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick

The SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick is a new generation of storage device that is wireless and efficient. You don’t have to plug this in, unless it’s to charge it and the SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick will integrate with your phone, tablet and computer wirelessly. Using this device, you can save, access and transfer large files and stream HD videos and music. It will also automatically copy photos and videos from your camera roll while connected. It is used with a SanDisk Connect app which can be installed on mobile devices and it can be used at a reasonable distance, such as another room of the house, so you don’t have to have the device in front of you when you’re using it.

Compared to the SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive, which is discussed below, this has an old-school USB flash drive appearance. It doesn’t look too different from others on the market but it does have a stylish rippled pattern and comes in black with an amber lid for the sizes up to 128GB or white with a clear lid for the two largest sizes. There’s also the wi-fi symbol printed on the lid so you don’t confuse it with non-wireless USB sticks.

What is really great about this is that you can stream to three devices at the same time, so if you wanted to watch a video clip on your phone but also wanted to share it with friends, you wouldn’t all have to crowd around the one device. You could share it with them simultaneously.

It comes in six sizes, namely 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 200GB and 256GB. It costs $22.99 for the 16GB drive and prices increase up to $109.99 for the 256GB drive. You can check out the range in their online store or read more about the drive on the SanDisk website.

SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive

Another new device from SanDisk is their Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive. It’s a tiny flash drive that works at high speeds of 130MB/s which is 15x faster than standard USB 2.0 drives, so you can use it to move a large file such as a full-length movie to the drive in less than thirty seconds. It offers huge amounts of storage space. There are five sizes, namely 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. It is also backward compatible so it will work with any USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port.

The USP of this device is the fact it is so tiny and it could easily fit into your wallet or purse so you can easily transport these important files. That is what attracts me to it personally, but it’s also what concerns me. Something so small could easily get lost. So, how do you keep your files secure? Well, it’s possible to create a private folder on the drive with 128-bit AES encryption software and the files would be password protected.

Something else that I really liked about this is that RescuePRO Deluxe data recovery software can be downloaded to recover files that have been accidentally deleted.

Prices start at $12.99 for the 16GB drive and go up to $79.99 for the 256GB drive. You can read more about it at and purchase at the SanDisk site.

What developments would you like to see in future generations of storage devices?
