Review: InCase City Compact Backpack

One of the most important investments you’ll ever make isn’t the gadgets you buy but the cases and bags that protect them. After all, we purchase portable devices like laptops, tablets and smartphones so that we can work on the go, so it makes sense to house them properly and ensure that they don’t come to any harm while we’re on the move. If that case or bag is fashion-forward and stylish, all the better. I was given a chance to sample the InCase City Compact Backpack in exchange for an honest review.

This is a full sized laptop backpack, designed to carry a MacBook or other laptop of a similar size. It features a 360 degree padded laptop compartment, quick-access pockets and shoulder straps with padding so they don’t cut into your back and shoulders while you’re carrying everything around.

Specs

  • Dimensions: 18″ x 13″ x 5″ (L x W x H)
  • Volume: 17.5L
  • Compatibility: up to 15″ MacBook Pro, iPad
  • Strap: Adjustable shoulder straps with air mesh padding.
  • Storage: Plush fleece lined laptop compartment, large organizer compartment, iPhone pocket with fleece lining.

The bag is charcoal grey and the material on the outer of the backpack has a very modern and stylish grained texture. This is great because it’s gender neutral and would appeal to young and old consumers alike. It weighs about as much as any other backpack you would buy which is good, because usually sturdy bags are heavy.

The bag has two zipped compartments at the front. One is shallow and fleece-lined and the other is about twice the size of the first. This would be ideal for storing a tablet and some notebooks. The fleece-lined compartment might be better suited to gadgets that don’t need much padding, but would benefit from being kept clean, such as earbuds.

The main section is split into three separate storage areas. One is a mesh pocket and is quite shallow. The second is the main deepest section, obviously best for a laptop. The third is a narrow but deep, fleece-lined compartment.

What I really liked about this bag is the professional appearance. It’s a backpack, but it is elegant and stylish. It’s really difficult to find any backpack that isn’t sporty or funky, and most laptop bags I’ve looked at are so bland. This ticks all the right boxes in terms of aesthetics. It also has lots of storage space and separate compartments to keep on top of where everything is kept. Also, it’s worth mentioning the fleece lining. It’s like velvet. It’s so luxurious and I just love it.

What I don’t like about this is the stiffness of the straps. They’re quite rigid, which means they’re obviously great for reliability but not as comfortable and flexible as I would like.
