Look and feel

The camera is not that different to typical products of this sort. The front has the camera and 2 IR LEDs. A status LED is also present, which may be turned off via the app (in case it becomes annoying, or you want a bit of discretion).

The IR LEDs, which come on in the dark, are pretty obvious.

The bottom has a micro USB port and a slot for the SD card. Very kindly, Honeywell throw in a 8GB SD card with the product, making this good to go straight away.

Also included is a stand which magnetically attaches to the base. There is around 30 degree of vertical play here, but not much more.

The stand cannot be mounted or attached to a wall for horizontal placement of the camera.

At the back of the camera is a slot so you can attach it to a wall. However, it will always be vertical. This makes it slightly awkward as compared to other cameras that can be horizontal or even upside down as needed.

Setup

The setup starts with downloading and installing the ‘LYRIC’ app from your respective app market. The app is available for both Android and iOS. Our test was done on an iPhone.

Once installed, you need to create an account, which is typical. However, this is only useful when you go from device to device, but cannot access your recordings via a web browser.

You can also set up a pin to make your camera footage even more secure.

After your app is setup, you add a camera, which then looks for your camera and drives you through the process.

Once done, it simply works.

Ease of use and usability

The camera usability is purely reliant on how well the app works.

When you load the app, it simply opens up the camera.

If you have a pin or Touch ID set up, it may ask for that.

You can view the live feed through the camera. However, unlike most cameras that let you view it continuously, this only shows you footage for one minute at a time. This can be annoying in case you want to keep a constant eye on something, or as in our case, use this as a baby monitor.

In terms of sound, it isn’t very loud, but it is detectable.

You can set up motion and sound alerts, which is handy as it records those events separately on the SD Card for later viewing.

Once again, it interestingly let us measure how much our baby had slept as you could see times of when we leave the room vs when we go back on hearing her cry.

Image Quality

At 720p, the image isn’t the best in the world. However, it is decent for most applications. Night vision is a bit blurry, but quite bright. Faces seem a bit flushed out, but you can make movement out as needed.
