Home » BakBlade 2.0 Review

I’m not sure how qualified I am to write a review of the BakBlade 2.0 since it’s a men’s product and I am female but we all have body hair, right? There’s a never ending battle to keep it under control, whether your concern is leg hair or nose hair. For those who want a smoother back, and the majority will be men, the BakBlade 2.0 is designed for this job. I’m a natural brunette so my body hair can make me self-conscious but back hair is probably not the problem for me that it is for men since like most women, the fine downy hair on my body is soft, fluffy and mostly unnoticeable. It’s not coarse like many men have but I thought why not? I’ll give the BakBlade a go. I have written loads of beauty product reviews so maybe this is something I should take a look at. I decided to put it to the test on other areas of the body since a blade is a blade and should do the job no matter what.

The BakBlade is a device which doesn’t require batteries and is intended for both wet and dry shaves. It has an ergonomically designed handle to provide grip while in use on different areas of the back. It’s shaped like a back-scratcher and folds down to half the size. It takes special cartridges and they can be easily replaced. It also has a wall-mounting accessory for storage.

I firstly tried this on my legs. It’s not always easy to bend down and reach the legs and this seemed like a good way to shave my legs quickly, since the claim is that it is for both wet and dry shaves, no soap required. It did indeed remove the hair but I found that a wet shave is probably best. After attempting a dry shave I ended up with razor burn on my legs that was quite uncomfortable. Thankfully, I only did a small patch around my ankle. This could be due to the softness of the hairs I have and dry shave comfort may vary between individuals. I then tried a wet shave. The difference was incredible. There was no razor burn at all and with a little shaving foam, this turned into a razor that could be handy for anyone who shaves their legs but has trouble bending down. My recommendation would be for pregnant women, those with back trouble, or those who are just a little less agile than most.

I then moved onto my back. The handle certainly reached around to the right areas and I had good control over where the blades went but again, I found that a dry shave wasn’t a good idea. My hair is very fine and fluffy and again I wondered if that was the issue. I did notice a logo on the packaging of a distinctly male looking primate giving an enthusiastic thumbs up with the slogan, “Escape Your Ape” curved around him. Yes, this product is designed with extremely hairy men in mind.

The wall-mounting feature is made of thin but sturdy plastic. It can also hook onto something if you turn it around but this would leave the blades visible and could be a safety issue. It’s best to use the suction cup to stick it to your bathroom tiles and keep the blades facing the wall.

Overall, I would say this is a handy investment for anyone who has problematic back hair or those who want to stay smooth anywhere on their body but don’t have the agility required or the money to afford regular waxing. You can read more about the BakBlade 2.0 on their website and it is priced at $34.95. Replacement cartridges can be purchased in packs of 3 for $11.95.
