WalabotDIY Review – Become a Superman DIYer

Many jobs and workplaces are now hugely reliant on a range of gadgets and the DIY industry is no different. Though it’s not electrical drills or digital tape measures we’re talking about, Walabot is a 3D imaging sensor that has been designed for renovators, builders, and DIYers.

Regardless of what type of builder you are, a DIYER, general contractor, kitchen re-modeller, realtor or a house flipper, Walabot will make your life a whole lot easier. The device allows you to pinpoint walls that are load bearing, thus which walls you can and can’t break down, it works by detecting whether there is a thick piece of wood (this would be load bearing) at the top of the wall. It’s also useful when it comes to opening spaces in the wall to create a new window, or putting in a recessed mirror.  It locates any studs, pipes and wires hidden in the wall ensuring that the user doesn’t hit them when breaking into the wall.

After reviewing Walabot, and testing it out in a variety of situations, the benefits are actually quite vast.  For DIYers, contractors and renovators a huge issue is you it can be very hard to predict what’s behind a wall. One wrong move can turn your dream projects into a DIY disaster.  Contractors have to make contractors with clients before they assess the walls, there are often surprises, finding an unexpected pipe in the place you wanted to put a window in. This leads to friction between contractors who now need to explain the issue and increased cost and for the client who doesn’t understand or like these kinds of surprises. WalabotDIY can help both groups, it enables the average DIYer to take on many more projects themselves, and for the contractor, they can scan walls before finalising a project

We also handed it off to a plumber, kitchen-fitter, builder, decorator, general contractor, to and were really surprised how each had a different use for it.   In one situation a plumber used it to trace the path of a water pipe up the wall, so as to avoid drilling into the wall and bursting a water pipe or potentially hitting an electrical cord, which for anyone who has experienced this first hand is a nightmare situation with costly repair bills.

What we found from having many different type of users test it out was that it actually started to give the average DIYer other skills that he didn’t have before.  By being able to trace the path of a wire up the wall to change a switch, he could now branch into some of the basic projects an electrical handles.  Similar results with plumbing, or installer jobs.

Final Word – 4/5 stars

If you are into DIY or renovation projects, do yourself a favour and get WalabotDIY.  It will save you time, give you more confidence going into and job and the amount it will save you from avoiding to hit a water pipe, gas line is way more than the cost of admission.  What we would improve is the ability to save the information you scan after analysing a wall, and a way to save calibration so when you go to a wall you have calibrated on before, future calibration would be necessary.
