Best services to use with your phone

Ever wonder what the main purpose of that thing in your pocket is? We call them smartphones, but how often do we actually use them to make phone calls? At least I am guilty of not making much use of the phone function, and mostly sticking to the ‘smart’ part of my smartphone.

While part of it is just convenience, a big part of the process is the fact that phones can be costly, people prefer written communication, and sometimes it just isn’t convenient. Despite all that, we have thought and tried a few services, and noted them down for you so you can keep using your phone as a phone!

Actually Call People

Say what? Yeah, sometimes the quickest way to get an answer out of people is to actually call them. Yeah, you sent them an email in the morning, but when a person is actually on the other end, they really cannot escape you. While this option is used more in the business world rather than personal relationships, you really should give it a go.

Try Virtual Phones

The virtual phone service comes in many forms. You can either get apps such as Skype which will manage all that for you. Alternatively, you can go to a dedicated service that will let you build local numbers all around the world, with services such as call forwarding thrown in. It all may seem a bit complicated, but this is pretty much how the world operated before we had email and apps like WhatsApp.

Stop relying on wires or network

Another way to do the same is dependant on your carrier. Many companies and providers provide an app that lets you do the same. O2, Three, Virgin and many others let you make calls through an app, and that means that you don’t need service or a wire to make that phone call.

You can also bypass any roaming charges if you are out of the country.

Get rid of those expensive numbers

We all have to ring various companies, for various needs. Be it to place an order or more so these days, to make a complaint. This often involves ringing an expensive number, and even before somebody has provided you with any level of support, you are already out of pocket! There is a solution to that as well. Some websites will allow you to ring a dedicated number which will forward the call through their system. Internal deals with networks mean that they get the same call at a cheaper rate, and you have to pay a fixed fee if you use their system. It may not always be cheaper, but it is a great way to make sure you know exactly what you are spending. So, if you had to ring EE, just hit the link up and use their number instead of a direct dial.

Screen those calls

Probably the biggest annoyance with phone calls is all the spam we receive. Once again, solutions already exist. You can either turn to solutions by BT, which protect both landlines and mobiles, or use simple apps such as TrueCaller which can give you a lot of data just by checking the number ringing via their database.
