Call Centre Trauma? Try Contact Number UK

We have all been there. We need to make that important phone call to our electricity company, our bank, our service provider, or just need to get some information across. Thanks to the power of the internet, you can do a lot of these things online, but sometimes you just don’t have a choice. You have to pick up your phone, dial a premium rate number, and then sit and wait for ages before you get answered. You are told over and over again that your call is very important, and that you are number 3 or 7 or 11. Or that the waiting time on average is something like 25 or 15 or 5 minutes. Sadly a lot of us just don’t have a choice. We have to ring such services early in the morning, around lunch, or as soon as we finish work, and everybody else is bound by the same reasons. The queues are there for a reason, and often you end up waiting ages for a 2 to 5 minute phone call. The wait is bad, that we know, but having to pay for a premium rate number while you do nothing but waste time is not great either.

Contact Number UK had a great idea. What if you could bypass all the queues, and start talking with a customer service rep within minutes? Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, they thought so too, and went on about creating a service that would deal with the exact problem.

So, what do they do? They give you a list of phone numbers that begin with 0843 that you can call and while they guarantee to cover the top 100 companies of the UK, they have an extensive database with covers all sorts of companies from Amazon to HMRC all the way to O2, Virgin or Sky.

While the 0843 number costs you 7p/minute on a BT landline, a lot of these companies use 0871 numbers which cost more, and some even go as far as using numbers beginning with 09, which cost an extortionate amount (we have all seen those scary Facebook posts, right?). Calling from a mobile? It may cost you more, but that depends on your phone company.

The most important thing is, you know exactly what you’re spending, and even more importantly, you’re not sitting there waiting for ages to speak to a representative. With them, you are skipping the queues, and saving on phone bills.

So, what’s the catch, you ask? The website says no, but I reckon that all the numbers provided on the website belong to them, so it is fair to expect them to get some kind of a commission for each call you make. However, it is a small price to pay (or a small saving in most cases) for such a service.

Of course, they try their best to have as many UK services on their website as possible, and promise to update them as needed.
