John Lewis gets excited about all the CES Innovations

CES, every year, gives us technology nerds the best start possible to the year. Not only does it showcase what is to come, but it also gives us a glimpse of the not so distant future. CES 2016 has been no different, and we have seen a huge array of exciting announcements from a lot of brands.

John Lewis, a major technology retailer in the UK is as excited as we are! Here is a comment from John Vary, their Head of Innovation:

“The technology on show at CES this year has evolved significantly over the last 12 months, as big brands such as HTC, Samsung, Parrot, LG and Huawei have worked hard to launch products that mirror human behaviour.

Intuitive and sophisticated devices spanning the show’s key themes of virtual reality, augmented reality, the Smart Home, connected cars and drones have launched as these technologies become integrated into the mainstream.

Our customers now have a much greater understanding of these technologies as they become normalised into everyday life and we expect to see demand for devices in these categories increase significantly over the coming months.

In particular, the launch of the HTC Vive virtual reality headset caused much excitement in revealing a camera system that allows the wearer to see objects in the physical room around them, helping to avoid collision – further blurring the line between physical and digital. This creates further anticipation for new possibilities and advances in VR. The beauty of the VIVE is that it transforms a technology that could isolate you within a virtual space into a product that enables you to be immersed with a second person to share the virtual experience.

As part of the Internet of Things (IoT), the Smart Home has grown to embrace many more brands that can be connected throughout the home. Just some of the exciting launches at the show include LG’s Hom-Bot vacuum – an autonomous sweeper, Motorola’s Hubble baby monitor which provides parents with insight into how their babies sleep and the Netatmo Presence, a smart outdoor home security camera which detects and distinguishes between cars, people, and animals.

The Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator with the ability to order your groceries through the fridge and send updates to your smartphone on food you are running low on, really shows what is possible in this space and highlights its ability to provide a real purpose for the consumer.

Huawei, Misfit and Withings were just some of the brands to unveil new wearables – reflecting consumers’ continuing commitment to personal health and fitness. The FitBit Blaze focuses on health and its partnership with the Fitstar app means it can display on-screen workouts and last up to five days between charges. We are excited to see how this is received. An emerging trend in wearables is the Internet of fashion and this is where health and wellbeing tracking converges with something you would normally actually wear.”
