Paris, Syria, and My two cents…

In the light of the attacks on Paris, my heart is sad. In the light of the attacks on Beirut and Baghdad, my heart is sadder. In the light of the plane that went down in Sinai, Egypt, my heart is sad. My heart is sad and upset. Shocked. Appalled. It isn’t just a matter of loss of lives, or the fact that such horrors have occurred around us. My heart is sad because of how we are reacting to this whole situation. My heart is sad because we are all reacting, over reacting, and not stopping and thinking. My heart is sad because we are talking about humanity, and killing humanity as we speak.

Probably the best words of wisdom I saw yesterday came from Paul Bernal on Twitter:

I have done so, or at least I have tried to. But the reactions I see have forced me to write this. To speak out. To say things that are obvious, but still need to be pressed home. I am sad because I have seen some dear friends react in a horrible way, turning to gross generalization of a big set of people. I am sad, because common sense is not prevailing. I am sad because people are ignoring the obvious numbers. Not to take a sarcastic or humorous tone, but the following words from Adam Hill are gold:

So basically, I would like to address some of the claims people are making, and give my two cents. I don’t really want to, and I do not claim to know everything that is to know about these things, and feel free to comment or leave any criticism below, but hear me (read me) out.

What (I think) has happened around the world?

It is obvious, but a long time ago some guys tried to mess with the USA. While a lot of conspiracy theories exist, lets assume that none of them are true, and it was an evil group in the heart of Afghanistan that caused all this, and wanted to take America down. They made a claim that they represented Islam, and were doing what was their right, and true purpose in life.

USA retaliated by sending armed forces to conquer all of Afghanistan. ALL OF IT. Yeah, you’ll (hopefully) get the few idiots there, but you also mess up a whole lot of civilians as well.

Now hold on a second. If a radical group in UK, France or Germany did something like that, what would happen? We would probably see governments working together, sorting stuff out, and going and eradicating these people. Not just bombing a country randomly and getting carried away with it.

The after affects have been felt no where more than Pakistan, where a lot of refugees turned up, and in their frustration have attacked the civilians in Pakistan. The security situation has massively deteriorated in Pakistan, and the war on terror has ended up turning Pakistan into a terrorists play ground. Thanks a lot America!

What happened next?

This guy, Saddam, was an idiot. No doubt about that. He was an oppressor, and he did bad things to his people. It isn’t great, but that happens in a lot of countries around the world.  That man had also been supported by the west, and there are no doubts about that. Same goes for a gentleman known as Colonel Gaddaffi. Next we know, those countries are being attacked, for God knows what reason, as America, drunk on their (lack of) success thinks they are the police man of the world, and want to sort everybody else’s issues but their own.

Once again, the civilians suffered, they died, or were divided. A group called ISIS (or IS) was born, and they took to the mountains, trying to claim what was their own.

Once again, who has suffered the most? The countries attacked in the first place, and the surrounding areas. The fact that we are giving weapons to both sides of the war does not help eradicate issues.

Who has suffered the most?

Take a guess? The west? No. The Europeans? No. USA? NO!

Only one group of people has suffered the most, and it is the Muslims of the world, as a group, and specifically the people who have been trying to run away from all of this.

People who are criticizing the Muslims

To you I say one thing. Muslims have already suffered enough.

By criticizing Muslims, you are one with the terrorists. You are proof that they have succeeded. You are proof that more of this will happen, and you are at fault.

British Nationalists who are one with France right now

Really? You go around hating France all you like and now you are one with France?

People hating on refugees

How do you sleep at night? Do you not realize that what happened in Paris is what happens every single day in their countries? That is exactly what they are running away from. If there was any ounce of humanity in you, I hope you will look in the mirror and see the horrible monster you have become.

Why do people do these things?

One may wonder, but the answers are not that difficult. People are doing all this thanks to the million and one frustrations they have. When you have no where to turn to, you go radical. I have seen hunger, starvation, and emptiness in hard working people. I have seen all this in Pakistan, which is not even a country that has been part of the mix in the same way.

The evil ones exploit the human weaknesses in all of us, and promise us a better life, a better after life, and other such lies. When you are going to die of hunger and starvation anyway, you don’t really care any more.

The solution?

Education, food, the basics. The west has gone and messed up a lot of countries in the last 10 odd years. And then we have just walked away. We haven’t even had good enough reasons to do much there. The solution is simple. Go and put infra structures there. Get rid of the walls you have created. Give them free schools, education and food. Provide the kids with the playing fields they have lost, not guns and knives. Stop making money by supplying them with weapons.

So, what now?

One can rant and crash all one likes, but where do we go from here? What do we do?

The obvious answer is that we come together, drop our walls, our divisions, and work together towards peace. Yeah, having a happy neighbourhood or street or a group of friends will not cause world peace, but start small, and carry on. Do it. A happy neighbourhood means a happy town, a happy town a happy country and so on.

We need to all work harder, on a personal level and on a government level. We need to start small, and make a difference.

As I have already said, I claim no exact knowledge, but these are my thoughts and opinions. I am open to criticism and comments, so feel free to leave them under here. If you don’t agree, that is fine. If I have made a mistake in some statements, go ahead and tell me, and I will correct them.
