Review: 1byone – Universal Windshield Dashboard Powerful Magnetic Car Mount Holder

Car mounts come in many flavours. Often the variance comes in how they attach themselves to your car (windshield, airvent, etc), or how they hold your phone. While our phones have moved on in leaps and bounds over the years, not much has changed in the world of car mounts. However, 1byone are trying to make a change by introducing their new magnetic car mount holder.

The idea is simple. You get a couple of magnetic stickers that you can either place inside a case (they are extremely thin) or put on the back of your phone, and once in, they magically (magnetically) just stick to your car mount. As simple as that. No fiddling with grips, no two handed motion, no trying to make sure that the thing stays in the grip, and so on.

The Phone end

The phone end is fairly simple. You get two magnetic accessories. A circular one can be stuck to the back of the phone.

Or a square one, that can be slipped into a case.

Please note that the case in the picture doesn’t come with the item, but it should work with most cases as it is fairly thin. Of course, if it doesn’t you can always stick it on the back of your case too.

The car mount

The car mount comes with a very good suction mechanism to attach to your windscreen. A clip system ensures that it enhances the suction you have already created by improving your bond. Of course, standard practises mean that you should ensure that both the wind shield and the surface of the suction mount are clean. You also need an extremely flat surface, so it wouldn’t just stick on any textured surface, and works best on glass.

It also comes with the advice that if it stops to stay stuck, just rinse it with warm water. I have not had to try that as so far it works very well.

The mount head has a magnet to attach to your magnet on the phone, and that can be rotated and adjusted in 360 degrees as well as a bit of angle adjustment to make sure your phone is facing as you would like it.

The Magnet

The main magic of this case is of course the magnet part. It was almost a surprise to me how well this sticks to the phone. You place your phone close enough, and bam, it is there. Taking off is fairly easy too, a determined pull is all it takes to take it off.

Most importantly, as you go over bumps and various road conditions, the phone stays stuck and doesn’t fall off, nor does it move.

It works well even when there is a charging cable attached to the phone, which obviously adds a bit of its own pull as well.
