Has Technology Changed The Way We Game?

Gone are the days where we turned on our games console, clunked in our huge games cartridge and then left it to load for the next hour or so.

Over the last ten years the speed in which technology has changed and advanced is spectacular. Games are no longer accessed only through a console at home or at the local arcade but can be found on a whole host of devices.

You can now even visit a virtual casino without leaving the house and try your hand at playing the roulette wheel from the comfort of your own sofa.

On Demand

Most of us would be surprised with how many different devices we have at our fingertips in our own homes nowadays. We are surrounded by technology in every part of our lives. Some of those gaming devices might include mobile phones, multi-channel television, video games, MP3 players, the internet, wireless networks, Bluetooth links – the list goes on and on. Not only have gaming devices evolved but other items have also changed to embrace gaming aspects.

So, as we near the end of 2015, what types of gaming are out there? The internet has revolutionised the way we access information but how can we also connect our devices to the world of gaming?

Gaming for everyone

Of course, we still have the traditional computer devices such as Xbox and Playstation 4 and there are endless forms of games that we can enjoy on these.

Traditional puzzle games such as solitaire or even modern puzzle games such as Candy Crush or Bejeweled played on our tablets or phones are proving as popular as ever. I still remember the days when I spent hours addicted to Tetris – that game where coloured blocks dropped down across the screen and had to be fitted perfectly together. Simple and frustrating at times but addictive. Yet these games have not disappeared – they too have evolved and survived and there is even a Tetris World Championships.

Competition

If you are competitive in nature, then why not try out sports-themed games such as Fifa 16 or EA Sports UFC. These are also great games to play with groups of friends at home or online.

Gaming is a great way to escape the real world and create your own online persona. You can be whoever you want to be. Maybe try being a soldier in Call of Duty or even build your own family and friends in the ultimate simulation game Sims.

Technology gives us a much more realistic way of living out our real world fantasies. It’s an aspect of gaming that is likely to become even stronger as infra-red and holographic technology takes hold.

Gaming with friends

We can now even game with friends without being in the same room as each other. Fancy a game of Scrabble but got no one to play against? Well, you can find other players online for this and many popular board-games. Facebook actually has a Scrabble app available where you can play against Facebook friends in a game that will test your mental endurance.

Technology has made competition much more commonplace. You don’t have to rope unwilling siblings or friends into a game – there’s a whole world of fellow fans ready to challenge you to whichever game you want to play.

How you choose to explore modern gaming or what you choose to explore is entirely up to you. Just remember that with all technology and devices it is important that you remain safe. For ideas on how to keep you and your family protected there are some great tips at http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/

Technology has opened up gaming to a wider audience, allowed us to play out our dreams and connect and play with friends from far and wide. Advancements are far from over too. Innovations are constantly needed to compete for our attention and the competitive nature of the gaming market simply fuels further expansion.
