What are the most popular mobile games you play? What are the most popular mobile games your friends play? Or, if you don’t indulge in either, what do you think the most popular mobile games are? For me, I would class the likes of Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Need for Speed, Fifa, etc the most popular games I have ever played, but I was wrong. The most popular gaming happening on all of our mobile phones is that of the casual and social type. While the stats may seem like a surprise, if you think about all the Facebook invites you have had over the last couple of years, it all makes sense!

Here we look at some of the top popular game genres:

Casual/Social

While a lot of hardcore gamers would not even consider these as games, it is a fact that not only are these the most popular games at the moment, but they are also the reason that now there are at least 50%, or even more female gamers than male ones. These games include the kind of games where we invite our friends over social media and indulge everyone. They also include your usual late night casual adventures, which include the likes of online gambling and casino games. For example, visit for mobile bingo at Honeybeesbingo for some slots and casino, or you can just stick and play something along the lines of Farmville. Whatever your poison, this is probably the one genre you will always find games to play in.

Puzzle

Puzzle includes everything from Words with Friends to the social and casual genre that is now the most popular. Here are a few that we found really addictive:

  • Alphabear  – A mixture of words creation from a list of characters, and creation of bears as a result.
  • The Room – This interesting and mysterious puzzle game is very addictive. While it is based on graphics based puzzles (and the graphics are definitely worth shouting about), it works as well as anything else we have tried.
  • Hundreds – This simple game is great. All you need to do is tap numbers on a screen so that they add up to a 100. Addictive and fun!

Action, Strategy, Sports & RPG

This is probably the genre most ‘gamers’ are aware of, and haven’t realised that the casual gamer has far superseded us! Games include everything from Fifa to Need for Speed to MineCraft.

Other

Other probably fits everything that doesn’t match a genre. I am not entirely sure, and it definitely doesn’t include the gambling types, so can’t say what this means. Is dating a game?

Persistent Multi-Player Universe

Once again, these are the games that go further than your social games. You go around killing others, or joining forces with others. Ingress was probably the most popular game that mixed up a lot of genres, but the highlight of the multi-player universe will definitely be Clash of Clans. They must be doing something right. They can afford to advertise it on telly, and the best part is, the evil ones you are fighting are always other people!
