Free Games to play on your browser

Before there were smartphones, there were regular mobile phones, and before they existed, we had the likes of GameBoy etc. to play games. However, somewhere, between the phases, at the time when the internet was still young and Hotmail.com was still one of the cool emails to have, a bunch of websites popped up offering free Flash based games. While Solitaire was all good, these games offered interactive play in a mostly simple format, and allowed you to waste hours upon hours in harmless fun. Like most games, they also managed to be highly addictive.

Here I look at some of the options I have found that still exist on the internet:

MiniClip

I was actually pleasantly surprised to find that MiniClip.com not only still exists, but seems to full of many many more Flash based games than it was back in my uni days. The website was probably the first one I discovered back in the day, and it offered simple games such as Tennis, and good old fashioned Hangman, which became a highly addictive game. Things have changed a bit though, as not only the good old PC based games available on MiniClip, but also a collection of popular iPhone (iOS) and Android games such as Cut the Rope. MiniClip Equivalents

Of course, MiniClip.com is not the only one that offers simple Flash games, and many others have jumped on the same trend too. Here are a few that seem to offer pretty similar offerings:

Addicting Games: http://www.addictinggames.com/

EA’s offering

Surprisingly, one of the top and highest grossing game company also has a little section of free games on its website. While all the links from the website end up pointing to external sites, it has a good collection, such as Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances, Star Wars, and many others.

Internet Archive’s offering of the old classics:

This is probably my favourite archive of what is on offer, and for good reason too. The good old folk at archive.org have got together a collection of most of the old favourites. If you were part of the generation that spent days upon days (or all your holidays, and awake hours, or times when you were not eating or at school) in front of a computer trying to kill some pesky boss, then you would recognize most of the names that are on this list. It includes the likes of PreHistorik 2 (or Pre 2), Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Aladdin, Prince of Persia, Doom 2, Lemmings and many many more.

Games for the risk takers

Oh yes, such a list cannot be mentioned without mentioning the latest trend on the internet, which is online casino and poker games. While a lot of these games need cash to play, you can click here for no deposit casino experience as well. A lot of such websites will still allow you to play games for free, or with ‘fake cash’, like most old fashioned games, where you win a high score instead of cash. Of course, to win real money, you do need to invest some. So if this isn’t your thing, you can stick to the free section on such websites.
