At this point, it’s safe to say that smartphones are a ubiquitous piece of technology. You have one. Your grandma has one. Your greatgrandma has one. Its essential value as a communication device means that everyone can find a use for it. But this isn’t quite true for for the Apple Watch, at least, not yet. Although anyone can probably find an Apple Watch feature that improves some aspect of their daily life, you can certainly function in society without one. Early adopters tend to fall into one of five cliques — each one having honed in on those features of the watch that they find invaluable. What follows is a guide to the five most common Apple Watch cliques. Who knows? You might find yourself in good company.

Fitness Buffs

When the Apple watch was unveiled in 2014, runners and workout freaks were curious to see how the device would stack up against an already crowded market of GPS watches, fitness bands and iPhone apps. The answer? Pretty well, actually. The pre-installed Activity and Workout apps are basically a two-stop shop for all of your health and fitness needs. You can track your runs, monitor your calorie intake and receive regular updates on your progress and achievements.

Without connecting to the App store, gym rats are sure to find something to like, but some third-party apps have expanded on the watch’s fitness capabilities in fun and creative ways. Don’t have a lot of time? The CARROT Fit app boils down a daily workout to seven minutes of pure insanity with cardio-based activities like “Celebrity Face Punches” and “Dragon Mating Dances.”

Device Conductors

What is a device conductor, you ask? I device conductor is just like a symphony conductor, only instead of an orchestra full of violins, oboes and tubas they have a 72-inch flatscreen TV, a Blu-ray player and an Apple TV box. These entertainment center maestros can change the channel, adjust the volume and even dim the lights in the room — all from their Apple watch.

Apple has pre-bundled their Remote app with the watch, suggesting that the company really cherishes this brand of user. According to a recent post on the Dish Insider’s Guide, companies like Samsung are also starting to release apps that work specifically with their devices. To be in the presence of a device conductor is to be in awe of their ability to control every electronic device in a room from the comfort of their couch.

Organization Freaks

Do you use your reminder app to remind you to add more reminders to your reminder app? If so, then the Apple watch has you covered. The watch can instantly pull all of your calendars and contacts for the iCloud, but you will need to download a third-party app for your reminders. The best by far is Clear, which lets you instantly and intuitively create lists of task, chores or items and set reminders. For the organization freak obsessed with tracking deliveries there’s also the aptly named Deliveries. This app even puts dots on a map to represent all of the packages you have en route. If only there was some way to remind yourself to download it.

Know-It-Alls

What was the name of the first character to die in “Jaws?” This is the kind of question that keeps the Know-It-All awake at night. You know the type. They fact check you on their phone every time you make a cultural or historical reference. They have more trivia nights than there are days of the week. For them, the Apple Watch is an absolute dream come true. They can access Siri at the touch of a button, and there’s a veritable treasure trove of knowledge-based apps waiting on the App store. Need to know what star cluster your looking at? Try Sky Guide. Can’t quite put your finger on the song that’s playing? Check out Shazaam, which has built an intuitive new app just for the watch. And if it’s still a little too early for trivia night, look no further than Trivia Crack, which lets you compete against friends and strangers online. You might need a second watch so you can look up the answers. It’s Chrissie Watkins, by the way.

Fun Chasers

Everybody loves to have fun, but the Fun Chaser has turned it into an artform. The Apple Watch is their paint brush. They can use it locate the nearest cab, make a last minute reservation, or even book movie or concert tickets on the fly. Yelp has shrunk it’s popular app down to Apple size, so the fun chaser never has to guess which sushi place has the best eel rolls. And Citymapper is perfect for getting around large metropolises like Paris and New York. It displays clear, step-by-step directions complete with train schedules and bus routes. You’ll definitely want to be near the fun chaser when they paint their masterpiece.
