We talk to Timothy Mudd from Scredible

We have just had an informal interview with Timothy Mudd, the Creative Director at Scredible. While the chat was fairly informal, we talked about the various aspects of the app, as well as the philosophy and need for it.

I have summarised our chat in the following bullet points, to give you a better idea about Scredible, and what it is, what it is for, and who it is for.

  • Scredible has been in development for the last two years, and started as a web interface.
  • The apps for Android and iOS, like most other apps, have followed from the website, and have been in development for the last 9/10 months.
  • What is the difference between this and other ‘social media’ apps such as Hootsuite and Tweetdeck?
This app is not about differentiating between this and those apps, this is mostly about solving a problem, and giving the users a solution. The problem? There is too much crap on the internet. Solution? Filter it, and present only the useful data to the consumer. How does it do that? Using AI, machine learning, the more you use it, the more it learns you, the more adapted the information presented is for you.
  • It is consumer focused. It gets to know you, learns you, your passions, your goals, your targets, and all the data is built around those.
  • Doing this, it achieves a lot of time saving, as well as builds your social media profile.
  • This then brought up the obvious question of privacy. Tim assured me that they use the latest security protocols, the same methods websites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are using. The data is extremely secure, and even the Scredible team doesn’t have any access to it.
  • The Scredible app/website will also write the data for you, and you can choose to stream it on your own profile page, or share it with others through your social media campaigns.
  • What really makes Scredible special is that these days we are all part of a sharing economy. We like, comment, retweet, share (or if you’re old fashioned, forward) things on the internet, but all that loses the personal touch. The Scredible app writes up a synopsis for you, which you can edit. This adds the personal touch.
  • More so, the more you edit the synopsis, the more it adjusts to you and your writing style. Once again, the AI and machine learning works with you and for you, to give it more of a personal touch.
  • Main focus for the Scredible team is online education. Getting information together, data, and all that in one easy to access method from all over the internet.
  • The team includes 4 PhDs, who have invented the brains behind the AI, 3 of them based in Dublin, one in Canada. Rest of the team is present in USA, and have other presences around the world.
  • You can have different profiles, which can all serve different purposes and gather different news stories. For example, I can have a different profile for my day job, being an electronics engineer, and only see information relevant to that. Then I can have a profile for the guy who runs OxGadgets, and is interested in the latest tech news and developments. Then I can also have a profile about the guy who is interested in cricket, and so on. These can be separate, and independent.

The chat was followed by Tim giving me a guided tour of the website, and the app, and I have a profile ready to go.

Scredible is a new service, which comes with a lot of promise and potential. I can’t wait to see how it adapts to my addiction to news over the internet. You can find out more by heading to scredible.com, or downloading the app from Google Play Store or iTunes.
