Review: Jack Wolfskin DRY ‘N COSY LONGSLEEVE Shirt

Thanks to the recent running bug that I have been infected with, I am trying quite a lot of running gear. While warmer climates around the world just require a good loose t-shirt and a pair of shorts, the cold and wet climate we often have in Britain means we need better gear, better shirts, better trousers, and similar. And before you start talking about the loose assumption I made about warmer climates, I am only talking about smaller, casual runs, that don’t last two hours or span half marathon distances.

So, in my quest to find something reasonable to wear for my morning jogs, that normally last about 15-30 minutes and go between 1-3 miles, I came across the Jack Wolfskin Dry-N-Cosy Longsleeve Shirt. It comes for both men and women, is purely functional, promises to keep you cool in hot weather, dry in wet or sweaty conditions, and fights odours. It is available from M to XL for men, and XS to L for women.

Look and feel

Extremely light, and made out of a slightly stretchable fabric, while being extremely soft to touch.

How well does it fit?

I went for medium, being of that size, and it fits me well, giving me an overall snuggly hug on the top. Being slightly stretchable means going for the exact size gives you the best fit. Also, that is where the moisture control and heat retention works best. Overall, it is very comfortable.

How does it feel while running/jogging/moving?

It feels good. The snug fit doesn’t move much around your body, or at least it doesn’t feel like it is moving much around your body, meaning there is no rubbing.

I have worn this in both cold and warm conditions, and it has worked well. Pairing this with the Passion Trail jacket from Jack Wolfskin, I event went running one morning when it was only 1 degree above freezing.

In the warm, it is great, acts as a second skin, taking away your sweat and leaving you dry and cool. This is in comparison with others that often go sticky.

In the cold, it works equally well, retaining your heat, and the snug fit ensures you get a nice warm jersey feel, which helps you warm as you get into your groove.

Most of all, it feels comfortable, when you put it on, while you are on the move, and when you take it off.

The functionality

This is sold as a ‘functional top’, so we look at those aspects:

– It retains heat in cooler environment. That it does well thanks to the snug fit and the material used.

– Wicks away moisture, which is great when you are building up a sweat.

– Odour free, which is great because as the sweat gets away from you, so does bad smell. While you won’t be able to go into a high profile meeting straight from a big run, a quick wipe with a towel and a change of clothes should make you presentable. (Disclaimer: Nothing beats a shower, though this comes pretty close).

Care

It is recommended to be washed inside out without a softener. Just something to remember!

How does it pack/travel?

Being extremely light, and made of really thin material, it can be packed into a really compact package. Ideal for taking it with you when you go away so you can put this on while hiking, etc.
