Review: Heat Holders – hats, gloves and socks

Spring may be here, but the nature of our weather means that there is always need for warm hats, gloves and socks. Heat Holders, a company that likes to reflect its name through its products, makes a range of thermal wear. We recently tested a few of their products.

Heat Holders Hat

This is a standard beanie style hat. It features a 4 layer construction:

  • Outer – High bulk insulating yarn
  • Hi-New-Tex Fabric (warm, waterproof, breathable)
  • 3M Thinsulate C100 (holds warmth in less space)
  • Inner Fleece lining which is soft and comfortable against your head

Does it deliver on the heat? Oh yes it does. It is warm, and if I may dare say, snuggly. Bit of a snag as my overly big size found this to be a bit too tight. I do have a slightly larger than normal head, but I passed this around and others found the fit to be a bit tight too. Could be just mine. They only come in one size, so I don’t think I got the wrong size.

However, if you go past it, or get used to it being a tight fit, it provides an extreme warm that you just don’t attribute to normal warm hats.

Heat Holders Gloves

Much like the beanie hat, these feature the same 4 layer warmth and comfort, and this time the fitting was perfect for me. I absolutely love these gloves, and they have totally replaced my usual gloves. Warm, thick, comfortable, there is nothing at all to complain apart from the fact that the thick layer means you often have to take them off if you need to do ‘practical things’. However, to be out and about, these are definitely the best gloves  I have tried for warmth.

Heat Holders Thermal Socks

These are no ordinary socks. No, let me rephrase that. These are no ordinary thermal socks. They are thick, they are chunky and they come with a massive tog rating of 2.3. While that number doesn’t mean a lot, they provide a lot of warmth. One of the special features packed into these socks is the cushioned layering. It almost feels like you are walking on soft surfaces when you wear them. A great experience!

However, be aware. If your shoes are one of the tighter fits, the socks and their thickness do actually lead to a bit of discomfort. Generally the shoes I wear are a bit lose, so these provided me with both warmth and softness. However, on one occasion where I was going for a long hike, with a different set of shoes, the tightness did play a part.

That warning aside, I still love these socks, and wear them at every opportune moment!

Verdict

At these prices, with this comfort and this warmth, you would be silly not to get these! Just make sure you are aware of the right sizes.
