KOBO ANNOUNCES KOBO GLO HD

kobo ereader

While Kindle dominates the e-reading market thanks to Amazon’s domination on the internet, Kobo have amazed us over and over again with the likes of the Kobo Aura and the Kobo Aura H20. We have looked at them both, and have been very impressed.

Kobo is back, and this time they are going stronger than ever. Featuring a 300ppi screen, a 4GB memory, a reading light and 4GB of memory, the new Kobo Glo HD offers you everything you want. Small, light and thin, this does it all. However, we do not see the H2O option in this quite yet, but we hope Kobo will be introducing that soon too. The price for all this? Only £109, making it very competitive.

It will be available in the UK from the 1st of June, while similar roll out dates for other parts of the world are detailed below.

Fall in love with eReading – exclusive to Kobo Glo HD, a toll-free, personal call with Kobo Welcome concierge service team will ensure readers enjoy their next great book within minutes

TORONTO, ON – 7th April 2015 – Reading takes us on a journey of the imagination and is a great escape according to 69% of the UK, which was identified in a recent study conducted by Kobo.  Almost half agree they would like it to be easier to read on the go, during life’s real journeys (47%).

With this in mind, Kobo launches a new eReader designed for those who put reading at the centre of their lives – the Kobo Glo HD.  This new device offers the highest resolution screen available on the market and at the lowest price. It’s a light and ultimately portable way to carry an entire library of up to 3,000 eBooks. With a 300ppi screen that delivers a clear print-on-paper experience, a low suggested retail price, easy registration and a concierge service, the Kobo Glo HD is a great option for both print booklovers considering eReading and digital enthusiasts alike.

Kobo Glo HD will be available in black and will retail for £109.99 (MSRP) online and in-store from 1st June in the UK.  It will also be available in Canada, the US, Australia, and New Zealand from the 1st May.  The device will be available from 22nd May in France.  For Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain, they too will have product available from the 1st June.

Getting started is easy – people can browse, buy, and read their next great book in a matter of minutes. For those looking to get tips on embarking on their eReading journey, the toll-free Kobo Welcome concierge service, exclusive to Kobo Glo HD, will provide customers with information on getting started, eBook recommendations based on their preferences, and great deals. With a world-class catalogue of more than 4.7 million titles at Kobo.com, ranging from romance to thrillers, biographies and memoirs to business books, non-fiction to literary fiction – Kobo has something for every Reader.

Michael Tamblyn, President and Chief Content Officer, Rakuten Kobo comments: “Kobo Glo HD is the perfect device for the booklover who hasn’t made the jump to digital. Our surveys show there is a huge contingent of avid readers who simply haven’t tried digital because they love the print experience. We definitely agree there is a lot to love, but also know there are lots of occasions where eReading can actually be more convenient than reading on paper. With that, we know Kobo Glo HD is sure to please any type of reader with a print-on-paper-like screen resolution, highly portable design to carry an entire library while commuting, customizable font options, and instant access to millions of books any time of day.”

Kobo continues on its mission to create products, for both hardware and the user experience, to ensure the technology gets out of the way, removing barriers between readers and their favourite stories.

Kobo Glo HD offers the highest-resolution E Ink display currently available. At 300 ppi (1448 x 1072), the 6” Carta E Ink HD touchscreen offers the closest experience to print-on-paper, allowing booklovers to read with crisp clarity. With a built-in ComfortLight, readers will be able to read in the dark without disturbing others with bright bedside lamps. The device’s 1GHz processor will ensure that page turns are swift, which means no delay while immersed in a great story. What’s more, people will be able to read for days without needing to charge their eReader with a battery that lasts up to two months – based on 30 minutes of reading per day with both the ComfortLight and Wi Fi turned off.

“Kobo stands for readers, and our goal is to continually encourage people to read more, wherever they are,” said Takahito Aiki, Chief Executive Officer, Rakuten Kobo. “Making reading easier has always been central to our strategy, which is why we created eReaders allowing people to enjoy their favourite books in direct sunlight with anti-glare screens, at night without a lamp with front-lit displays, and with Kobo Aura H2O, in the bath or by the pool without worry of damaging the device if accidently dropped in water. With Kobo Glo HD, we now have a high-quality device at a low price point, which we know will be appealing to those wanting to start building their own digital libraries.”
