What is it?

Are you a PC gamer? If so, you know exactly how important a good set of keyboard and mouse is to your performance. Cooler Master, a pioneer in providing equipment to gamers for a long time, and this is their latest offering. The Octane Gaming Gear combo packs in the Octane Keyboard and mouse, both featuring high quality performance as well as multicolour backlit keys.

The MB7C Keyboard

The keyboard features 7 options as back lighting, which can be adjusted to either of those colours, and it can also be set to pulsating mode. The keyboard is membrane style, so it isn’t mechanical, but that doesn’t really affect much of the performance. It has some great features such as:

  • Can detect 19 simultaneous keystrokes
  • 6 dedicated multimedia keys
  • Windows Key and Keyboard lock function

Now the keyboard is a very important tool to anybody who is a gamer, or a kind of person who writes a lot of articles, or a kind of person who codes a lot. This keyboard satisfies all of those uses. The fact that you can lock both the Windows key,  or the whole Keyboard, is both useful for gaming and just work use too.

So, how does it fare in gaming. Good, great even. I have tried using fast combos, and trying as hard as possible to ‘confuse’ it, but it works, and it works well. The backlit keyboard is a great touch too, and if you’re the kind of person who will walk around with a keyboard you like, this will work for you.

The mouse

The Octane mouse packs in a set of features as well:

  • 7 backlit colours to choose from
  • Adjustable DPI between 500 and 3500
  • 4 Preset DPI levels
  • 10 million click life cycle

Once again, the mouse works well, and the optical sensor provides good feedback through out your movement. The keys feel good, and you can be rest assured of a good feedback. Since they’re designed for that 10 million click life cycle, you can really go for it when you’re shooting that annoying little critter! Of course, the extra buttons on the side can be programmed to whatever features you prefer.

Verdict

A good combo there, with a pretty reasonable price. Why spend more on gaming kits when you can get it all cheap, with all the functionality built in.
