Pebble gets Android-wise, but isn’t supporting Android Wear

Pebble Update

Yesterday morning the Pebble news was all about how it is now in line with Android Wear, and anything that works on Android Wear should work with this. None of this was from Pebble mind, so I had no real way to check. I got hopeful. My app had just updated, and it had also updated the firmware in my watch, so surely it was the latest version, and surely fun fun fun was on.

I started looking up Android Wear apps, decided on one app that looked cool, and thought lets go for it. Installed it on my phone, but found no way of hooking it up with Pebble. Thought I might as well install the Android Wear app. The Android Wear app saw the Pebble, tried to connect to it, but failed. I thought I might as well as unpair the Pebble app from the watch, and do the usual restart malarki and try and pair it with just Android Wear. No joy either. Sadly, I went back to the Pebble App, discovered my favourite so far watchface (blackboard!) and then got on with work.

So far, I still didn’t have anything from Pebble, so I wasn’t sure, and I just hadn’t had the time to research it myself.

Later on, I do get the newsletter from Pebble, there is another update on the app and firmware, and viola, things are a bit different. Not totally different though. The major thing is that now Pebble is more 2-way than it used to be. In the past, you could pretty much reject calls, or silent them, but do nothing more. Now you can reply to messages from up to 5 custom messages, do things like payments, or open apps on phone. A bit more, but not the whole cigar.

Oh, by the way, this update isn’t just for Android either. iOS/Apple/iPhone people get new features too.

Mind you Pebble have promised to come with a new UI soon, and it should be available on all Pebbles, so here’s hoping it happens soon.

As I have often said, and will say over and over again, so far Pebble definitely has been the best smart watch I have tried.
