The bigger joy of running OxGadgets is all the people who write to me, and tell me about their projects. The team from Codie got in touch with me recently, and they basically have a small toy robot, that with the help of an app, is designed to help kids learn coding. They are Budapest based startup, with the aim of spreading digital literacy.

Codie-1On the face of it, Codie is not that different from any other Bluetooth enabled toys you can buy these days. However, it comes with a spin. With it is an app, that allows you to learn the principles of coding.

They say that there are 10 kinds of people, those who understand binary and those who don’t. I guess the same joke extends to people who do coding as well. While I loved coding back in university, I remember a  lot of  my friends finding the whole concept very difficult to understand. The process was easy, the principles weren’t. Codie addresses exactly that problem, and makes the principles simple, so simple that even kids should breeze through the learning process.

The app teaches the basic principles of coding such as serial execution of commands, programming patterns such as if-else, loops, and subroutines. Different blocks are designed with the ease of use in mind.
