Review: LG G3 QuickCircle Snap On Case

What is it?

Phone cases have come a long way the last two years. Ever since the ‘window’ introduced by Samsung in their QuickView Case, a new window has opened. Now we have the dot matrix case by HTC, and the latest addition to the list of ‘cool’ cases is LG’s QuickCircle case.

The case, like most other cases, snaps on to the phone and gives the phone protection from bumps, as well as protects the screen.

It also offers a circular window. A very cool design means that every time you close the case a watch appears, with a flash of white light going around it. The graphics are cool, and it is something I’d like to see in an Android watch at some stage.

Unlike other cases, this ‘circular’ window is actually open, as in it has no plastic or transparent sheet over it.

Look and feel

As already mentioned, their is a circular window in front, which folds back neatly so that the camera, flash and the laser focusing sensor are all open.

The case itself has a beautiful finish. While it is made to look like metal, it feels like good quality, hard fabric. It protects the four corners, and opens like a book.

With the case closed, the camera is once again exposed, as are all the ports. All ports are easily accessible as well.

The best part is that it hardly adds anything to the size or weight of the phone.

Putting it on and off

To me, one particular thing about a case is how easy it is to put it on or off. The QuickCircle case excels at this. You literally snap the phone in place, and as easily as that, you snap it out.

Knock?

Oh yes, you can knock through the circular window to see what’s going on. The clock shows the time, while any notifications pending on your phone also appear. Once again, I think this is inspired from Android Wear, but since I haven’t tried it yet, I can’t comment.

So, it is a watch… what else can I do?

Oh, no, it isn’t.

Swipe in any direction and you will be able to view four apps. By default, you get Settings, which takes you to the settings of the window, Music, Camera and LG Health. You can change these if you like. The Camera app is particularly useful if you want to take pictures quickly, even though looking and focussing through a small window is not as good as the main one.

Music and LG Health are focused on people on the go.

Wireless charging?

Oh yes. LG G3 comes with the little matter of wireless charging. Does this case get in the way? No. It lets you wirelessly charge the device even when the case is on. This makes it better than a lot of other cases I have tried, which definitely get in the way.

What about making calls?

You can’t dial, but you can accept calls through the window, and you don’t have to open the cover to carry on talking.

LED

The LED on the LG G3 is probably not the brightest of things I have seen. There is a little window on the case that lets the LED through, but if I was to be very very picky, it probably doesn’t help the LED. While perfectly visible, if you look at the phone from an angle, you may miss it.

Verdict

I am absolutely in love with this case, which isn’t what I normally say about cases. A good mixture of functionality, class, looks, style, without adding any bulk to the actual phone.
