A review of four smart TVs released this year

TV technology is becoming increasingly advanced each year which means that there are a myriad of options out there to choose from. Quality is improving, functionality is getting better and internet integration is quickly becoming common place. In 2014, we have seen some fantastic TVs released encompassing brand new designs, features and sizes. One of the biggest changes we have seen in TV design is the introduction of 4K display and curved screens. With sizes ranging from 50 inches to 105 inches, it’s an exciting time to be in the market for a new TV purchase. We take a look at four of the most exciting smart TVs to be released this year:

Samsung UN48H8000
Samsung’s 4K and OLED TVs are getting a huge amount of attention this year, however people are wondering where they fit in with those that aren’t ready for the full 4K yet? And where is the 1080p? Don’t worry, Samsung hasn’t forgotten about these folks! Their fantastic H800 LED TV features amazing light flow from the excellent LED edge lighting and also boasts top contrast and colour levels. The standout feature for many is the curved screen which features Samsung’s best picture quality for a 1080p display. Gamers will be delighted with the TVs performance and it is loaded with smart TV features such as split screen multi-tasking and touch pad remote.

Toshiba 58L9300U
This is the smallest entry in Toshiba’s line-up for 2014 and at 58 inches, it is an interesting choice of size. The model is packed full of cool extras such as 3D playback, dozens of picture quality options and brilliant smart TV features utilising the company’s innovative Cloud TV. Featuring a gun metal trim and stand to match, the Toshiba 58L9300U is easy on the eye and a makes a great fit for any living room.

Sony KDL-50W829
As the first TV from Sony’s 2014 range, the KDL-50W829 is certainly an affordable 50 inch option. Although not boasting the 4K standard of many TVs released this year, the picture quality is excellent and produces a rich, consistent and well-balanced colour palette. The smart TV system has been hugely improved and HD sources are displayed with outstanding sharpness which makes this TV a great LCD choice for 2014.

LG WebOS Smart TV
In the eyes of many insiders, the WebOS from LG is the front runner for best smart TV system of 2014. The interface has a thoughtful and colourful layout which will immediately impress while the simplified navigation system offers a wonderfully easy user experience.  All apps are included as standard and the launcher bar is fully customisable for your pleasure. The backbone of LG’s control system is the magic remote which features a revamped microphone for improved voice control. This can now be used for external home theatre systems, Blu-ray players and any other compatible devices.

With all these fantastic options to choose from, it really is a great time to invest in a new system or upgrade your current one. The only problem you may have is choosing from the great selection of smart TVs out there!
