The Galaxy S5 may not have packed in any major surprises, but one new thing it does offer is a built in health monitor. While a lot of health bands and similar offer it, the S5 was the first phone to actually give you that feature. However, now the feature is available to all you Apple fans too, thanks to Azoi, and their Wello case for the iPhone.

Watch the video below, which is probably one of the best product videos we have seen in a long time:

The Wello device works by letting you place two fingers on the two sensors, and then sends the data to your phone over Bluetooth LE. The app then lets you access your data. The following items can be detected using the device:

  • Heart Rate
  • Blood Pressure
  • ECG Data
  • Blood Oxygen
  • Temperature
  • Lung Functions

The data is gathered by the hidden sensors, and it allows you plot your key vitals over a period of time. Moreover, it connects with other health and fitness devices, so you can access all your data in one place. Not stopping there, you can use one device to access and record the whole family’s health. It also features two months of battery life.

What is that we hear you say? iPhone only? No! They have an app for Android too, so whether you buy this as a case for your iPhone, or just as a health monitor device, you are pretty much covered if you have an Android phone too.

Hamish Patel, founder and CEO of Azoi had the following to say:

Over the last two years, we have focused our efforts on coming up with a technologically advanced yet easy-to-use tool to help people monitor their health and facilitate better lifestyle choices.

We are proud to introduce Wello – a not so small engineering feat in microelectronics, nanosensors, imaging, data analytics and design. By putting health monitoring technology into a highly convenient and accessible mobile phone case, we hope to be able to make a real difference.

All too often, health problems go undetected until they are too late to address,” continues Hamish. “We believe that through improved self-awareness of key vitals, technology could very easily reduce the incidence and impact of a wide range of illnesses and diseases. Not only could this help ensure healthier, happier lives, but it could also ease the growing burden on healthcare services.

The Wello device is already available for a pre-order in the UK (and EU), and they promise shipment in summer. It has a retail price of £120/€145. More information and pre-orders are available at their site:
