Nokia Lumia 1020 becomes the device to light paint on the go!

Light painting 1

We love photography, and we love light painting. In fact, one of the best features we found when we were playing with both the Lumia 925 and the 1020 was how it could be used to light paint. Seemingly we were a step ahead of the curve, as now Nokia have just published their report on how the Lumia Imaging Technology brings light painting to smart phones.

Jokes apart, the Lumia 1020 (and the 925) are great phones for light painting. It all becomes possible because of the Nokia Pro app, which is now part of the Nokia Camera app. A 4 second shutter delay, some light adjustments, and the whole world is your canvas, quite literally!

Ian, who builds his own LED instruments to create images, says: “light painting can be difficult for some even with 30 seconds, so the fact anyone can now produce quality photos during a 4 second shutter speed on a smartphone is great for the art of light painting.  He continued, ‘The Nokia Lumia 1020 is the first smartphone I’ve ever seen that has the capability to capture quality light paintings due to its 4 second shutter speed and its 41mp camera. With the advances of cameras in mobiles, it allows anyone on the go, to try out light painting.’

Nokia have added a vibrant collection of such beautiful photos on their Instagram page.

Jeremy, who trialled the Nokia Lumia to create wool spins around pictured projections for the Nokia Instagram says: “The 1020 is the best camera phone on the market.  It performs excellently in low light and gives you more control over the camera than any other phone.”

Nokia have published the following tips on how to create light paintings using Nokia Lumia smartphones:

Set the Nokia Lumia on a steady surface or tripod

·         Access the camera control panel by swiping the camera icon left for adjustable settings

·         Set the ISO at a low level – 100 – 200

·         Set the shutter speed to 4seconds

·         Set the white balance to the setting with the light bulb

·         Set focus to infinite

·         Set the self timer to 10 seconds

·         Experiment with different light sources for stunning effects

·         To make the most of the 4seconds, get your friends to join in to create more light trails in a single shot.
