Moto X finally hits British (and rest of EU) shores

Motorola Moto X

It has taken a lot longer than it should have, but the Moto X has finally arrived. Or at least is due to arrive on the 1st of February to UK, and rest of the Europe. Motorola’s Moto G, the younger brother to the Moto X has done surprisingly well in the UK (I own one personally), and has impressed quite a few in the process. So it was only natural for Motorola to get their flagship phone across as well. The only question is, is it too late? I guess we shall find out over the coming months. Bearing in mind that the phone was released last summer in the US, and while it features KitKat, the latest from Android, it does bring hardware from last year with it. Problem? Not really, but we still think it is an interesting move from Motorola.

Motorola showcased the device in an event in London today, and the device has many features that do set it apart from many of the other players. Some of the highlights are:

  • Unique curved back to fit your hand. We have seen this work very well on the Moto G, and would be keen to try this out.
  • KitKat’s Google Now – responding to your commands after you say “OKAY GOOGLE”. This is Android’s equivalent to Siri, and while neither work in a silent environment, they have their uses.
  • Activate camera with a couple of wrist flicks.
  • All day battery (need to try this one, but once again, it does work on the Moto G)
  • Motorola’s Assist app (also available on Moto G) learns your schedule, silences your phone while you sleep, and keeps thing discreet while you’re at work.
  • 10MP camera with ClearPixel technology
  • Motorola Connect extension for Chrome means your browser shall report you on all notifications, and letting you take actions directly from your computer.
  • Motorola’s Glance view, as shown in the picture, which always keeps you up to date with your notifications. This makes it very similar to the Lumia feature on their latest upgrade.

“At Motorola our roots are deep in mobile hardware – we invented mobile communications,” says Andrew Morley – Vice President & General Manager, Motorola Mobility UK. “Now, as a Google company, we’ve become the kind of company that can build a 4G smartphone like Moto X. It fuses our history of mobile innovation with the best of Google mobile services.”

So, how much and when? You shall be able to get the Moto X from the 1st of February from  Phones 4u, Carphone Warehouse, O2, Amazon and Techdata.  Moto X will also be available in white exclusively to Phones 4u customers for the first three months.  Prices vary but start from £25 per month on contract or £380 SIM free.   For more information, please visitwww.motorola.co.uk.
