Top five headphones to put under your tree this Christmas

The twelve months that reside between Christmas day often seem to stretch on for infinity, making us long for those simpler days, when all that’s required of us is endless driving around, food preparation and television management. That is, until we remember just how nerve wracking the festive period is. All those presents! Well, for those of you looking to purchase headphones this Christmas, we’ve got your back with this, our top five headphones to put under your Christmas tree.

Sennheiser MC685 Sports Earphones – around £25

adidas

We’ve all got a gym buddy in our lives, the kind that spends hundreds on skin tight lycra for that half second edge or an only be spotted with a mass of protein enriched milkshake in one hand. They’re a lovable, idiosyncratic sort certainly, but they’re often seen with ill fitting, rubbish sounding headphones plugged into their face. That’s why we recommend the Sennheiser MC685 Sports Headphones from Superfi, not only are they affordable, making them a perfect stocking filler but they don’t fall out, sound great and are waterproof to boot. What’s not to like?

Sony MDR-V6 – around £70

Sony have a long history making terrific over ear cans, and they’re still making fantastic ones today. The MDR-V6 sound incredible, with punchy lows, balanced mids and clear highs, along with excellent build quality and comfort enough to leave you feeling completely alone with your music. They’re pretty much the perfect gift for any budding audiophile in your life, so don’t hesitate if you’re hoping for a Christmas delivery.

AKG K461 – around £50

Sometimes, a review says it all, and most times, those reviews come from the ever fantastic What Hi-Fi who described the K461’s as “Simply exceptional” and bestowed upon them the full five star review they so richly deserve. We can’t praise this SKG set enough, but we can sure try. Not only do they sound fantastic, look great, feel wonderful and come in at a surprisingly low price but they also include an inline remote, letting you change tracks, increase or decrease the volume or even take a phone call whilst wearing them. We’re in love with this set, and Superfi’s AKG K461 headphone deal is something that simply cannot be missed.

Beyerdynamic DT1350 – around £230

Looking to break the bank on somebody special? Never fear, we’ve got you on this one. Might we present the Beyerdynamic DT1350. Oh, sure, they aren’t cheap but they are beautiful, a word we mean in practically every sense. For your money, you’ll be receiving wonderful, neutral sound with a rich, expansive soundstage and top of the line build quality. They’re also equally comfortable in the studio than they are plugged in to your iPod, with a headphone amplifier taking these cans to a whole other level.

Bringing things back to the realm of reasonable pricing, we’ve got Phillips outstandingly wordy O’Neill SHO9560 The Stretch Headphones, a sports geared over ear set which features reinforced cable, a proprietary, super tough plastic construction (six times the hardness of polycarbonate) and remain flexible in temperatures as cold as -10.
