Archos 45 Titanium

What is it?

Archos have specialized at giving great bargains with their Android range, and the Titanium range is one of them. The Archos 45 Titanium boasts a 4.5″ screen, and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Look and Feel

It is quite hard these days to make an Android phone different. However, the Archos 45 Titanium actually does quite well by being different. The bold angles, and the little lip at the bottom makes it look almost a bit like the Sony Xperia L, without the flashing LED at the bottom.

A metal frame around the phone gives you a good premium feel, and this probably represents the ‘Titanium’ part of the phone.

There is a Nexus 4 like Bezel all around the phone, and the front boasts soft buttons for Menu, Home and ‘Back’.

The top has ports for micro-USB and 3.5mm slot, while the side gives you the power and volume rocker key.

The back has a camera and the flash.

It also features a back cover that comes off to allow you to insert  two SIMs and a micro SD card.

The Dual Sims

Like the Archos Platinium 45, this also features a dual SIM. Once again, it takes full sized SIMs, and they also include a micro to full sized SIM adaptor so you can use this phone from the word go. Both SIMs can be used to make calls, receive calls, send and receive texts, as well as data, though only one SIM has access to 3G while the other only goes up to 2G.

This makes it ideal for the likes who have to carry two phones, for example a business one and a personal one, or just want to get the best of two deals together.

The Screen

The screen is probably where this phone loses out, and this is sadly one of the things you notice the most. The specs don’t promise much, so you won’t really be disappointed, as you are getting what it offers. It features a 854 x 480 WVGA screen, and that is something you just don’t see on most top range phones. Having said that, it works like any other phone, and unless you watch films, the usability is perfect.

This is pretty much the only point where this high value for money phone loses.

The Power

Featuring a 1.3 GHz Dual Core processor, this is once again a mid range offering, but it does. You won’t be running great games, or doing a lot of processing with it, but for everyday use, and specially with a very stock version of Android, you won’t be complaining much.

The Camera

And we have a 5MP camera with a built in flash as well. The camera is fairly decent, but once again, it won’t be impressing you.

The Usability

So, what does a basic or mid-ranged phone offer in terms of every day use. Quite a lot actually. Most of our usage on phones these days is to check social media, read/reply to emails, read the news/browse, and play the occasional game. Oh, and there is that little matter of making and receiving phone calls.

The device does quite well. Sometimes we did notice that the loading of websites was a bit slow, but not too sluggish. Overall usage, social media, emails, all that actually works quite well.

Games, however, it may suffer on. It all depends on the kind of games you play, and how intensively they require processor power. You’re fine with most, but keep that in mind with this one.

Verdict

So what did we think of it? If you want a simple one phone does it all, and you don’t have too many demands, this is the device for your pocket. It carries two SIMs, and this means it can be both your work phone and personal phone. On top of that, it ticks all the boxes, even if none of them will blow you away.

So what pushes things into its favour? The price tag! For only over a hundred, this is the phone to go for.
