Review: Nobis The A.K. – Men’s Anorak

nobis AK

Now here is a different from usual review. When does clothing become a gadget, you ask? When it comes packed with lots of features! It doesn’t need to have buttons or headphones built in, but just the fact that it does a job, and a job well done is enough to make it a gadgets.

So, what is this? The AK from Nobis is a VERY WARM jacket, and it is a bit different from the usual. The first thing that strikes you is that the zip structure is quite different from the way we are used to.

A zip goes down to the front half, but not all the way down. However, a couple of zips under your arms let you get into the jacket, or loosen it. Being windproof/waterproof, I imagine that this has been done to keep the wind out, and give you maximum protection from oncoming winds. The zips do have flaps over them, to give you extra protection from the wind too.

Once you go beyond the zip layout, you start to notice the material. This is where this jacket really shines. It features an industry leading eco-friendly synthetic insulation, 100% polyester crosshatch shell, and it comes with their own Sympatex membrane lamination. This material is both windproof and waterproof, but is still breathable. And of course, to top it off, the material is coated with a water repellent coating, DWR (Durable Water Repellent).

All this makes this jacket very warm, as I mentioned above. Just to let you know, wearing just a t shirt underneath, and this on top, I was feeling quite warm even when I tried to walk about the 0 degree temperature mark. I did, however, notice, that it felt a bit tight, despite being the right size for me (L). Sizes do vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and country to country, but generally L works great for me. This in addition to the interesting side seam and front zip made for interesting putting on and taking off of the jacket at times, but once on you feel snug and cosy.

Then there are the pockets. There is loads of these, and I like a jacket that comes with that option. Interior pocket with a zipper, a zip pocket at left chest, a self pocket flap at woke, front and back pouch pockets, and front hip pockets.

Size complaints aside, this does come in a wide variety of sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL

So, would I recommend this jacket? Definitely. You won’t wear it everyday, but the moment the temperature drops below 4 degreesC, this will become your go to jacket, not to mention the essential jacket to have if you’re out and about in the snow!

This is priced at £594, and can be bought from Harrods, House of Fraser and Surfdome.
