What are they?

These beautiful headphones from Musical Fidelity not only promise great sound, but they do it in style, giving you a design that sells itself.

Look and feel

This is where these headphones really shine. A beautiful black finish, with subtle touches throughout make you notice just how much effort has gone into making these headphones look good. They are also very light, and that is always a good thing for headphones.

Features

Like most headphones designed for smartphone use these days, they feature both sound, as well as ability to make and receive calls. The cups are designed such that they give you good sound isolation, and no sound actually leaks from the headphones, so while you get a good sound, you don’t actually annoy any of the other people around you. A good touch!

Sound Quality

After their announcement, I was very keenly looking forward to give these headphones a try. So imagine my horror when I turn on a track, and suddenly a hiss takes over. Very disappointed, I changed track, and voila, it was gone. The hiss was part of the track, and that is exactly the kind of thing one has to be very careful of when one tests sound systems. Coming back to these headphones, the sound quality delivered was great.

The isolation works very well, and you hardly notice any background noise when wearing these. Similarly, as mentioned above, not much sound leaks, so nobody gets annoyed.

The bass is deep and powerful, but not overpowering, while the treble is clear and pronounced. The sound, when pushed to the maximum, does not get distorted, though obviously, be careful not to kill your own ears!

Alternatively you can go for Alcantara pads, which are also included. They aim to enhance music, and they go as far as saying that these deliver a ‘live environment’. The effect was once again subtle, which is exactly how I like my music to be, and yet it is enough for you to appreciate it.

Call quality

While often ignored, this is quite an important feature if one is to buy these headphones to make and receive calls too. Headphones that come with noise insulation always make for interesting call experiences, as it does cut you out from background noise, and while this is a good thing generally, it is something we don’t normally experience, so don’t let that put you off.

As expected, the call making and receiving is simple to use, and gives you good clear voice, on both your end, as well as the one you’re talking to.

Comfort

Now this is one thing which is very critical to me when it comes to headphones. How well they sit on your ears is all that matters to me, and while these headphones tick all the boxes, and are fairly comfortable, I did find them quite tight around my ears. The design, which forces noise insulation almost seems to be due to how the cups sit around your ears, and while the music lends itself to using these headphones, I had some trouble wearing these for long periods. If there is one thing I’d change about these, is to put some more effort in this front.

Verdict

For a very decent price, you get an extremely decent sound. They look good, and they generally feel good, but the comfort level was something that could be improved. Having said that, there are no perfect products.
