SPLIT: Earbuds with no Strings attached

Every now and then a product comes along that can change the way you look at things, and totally revolutionize how you use certain technology. Headphones, cans, headsets, earphones, whatever you call them, have been around for a very long time, and quite frankly, they haven’t changed much. Yes, you have the different types, and yes they even go wireless, but they are never truly sans wires.

All that is about to change with Split. A standalone audio player, that not only fits in your ears, it also works totally without any cables, and what is seriously cool is that you change volume, tracks, etc, by ‘gentle bites’. This could be the future, ladies and gentlemen!

We’ll let you see more about it in the video below:

Excited yet? The two headphones, despite being totally independent physically, play in sync with each other. The start of each song is synced, but otherwise no radiation is emitted by these devices. This means that the radiation is up to 1000 times less than a similar Bluetooth headset.

The interface of using bites is also very clever, though it will probably take a little getting used to. I am also slightly concerned about people with ‘dental issues’. Biting may not exactly work for them, but hey, it is new, and it is amazingly clever way of doing things in a very subtle non-intrusive way. And you can of course lock these so you can still eat and chew while you listen to music.

You will have to part with a minimum of $155 to get one of these, and with 23 days to go, they still need to raise about 90% of their goal.

They are supposed to hold about 24 songs, but I imagine that will increase dramatically as time goes on. Similarly, they last about 4 hours on a charge, and this too should improve.

Personally, we are very excited for this project!
