Nexus 5 brings Android 4.4 – KitKat

Android Kitkat

The Nexus 5 does not come alone. It brings to you the news of Android 4.4, KitKat! While the name amused a lot of people, and impressed others (Nestle?), the specs and details for the new OS have finally been released.

  • Just say “OK Google”. Yeah. The magical words from Glass have made their way into Android too. Also, with updated sensors, the OS should not be too battery heavy just because it is listening to you.
  • Locked screen will show you details of music, album art, etc.
  • Immersive mode, lets you focus really on items such as reading, playing games, movies.
  • Faster multitasking, though they all say that.
  • Smart caller ID, checks for unknown numbers for known businesses, etc.
  • New Hangouts app, putting SMS, MMS and Hangout (remember GTalk?) messages and calls in one place.
  • Emojis!
  • Printer support for printing on the go.
  • Better Google Drive integration, allows you better file management.
  • Redesigned Quick Office lets you get work done quicker.
  • Contacts are prioritized based on how you contact them.

Obviously, many other subtle changes are already there.
