Nexus 4: Why?

Up to date Android

One may wonder, that when there are all these brand new devices out there to be tried, why are we trying out a Nexus 4? The answer is simple. The Nexus 4 is not just any other device. It is made by LG, and with Google’s very own blessing. This means that this will always have the latest Android on it (or at least as long as they support it), and that is a very sweet deal. Even the best and bravest do not give you a software update within dates of it being announced. The Nexus range does!

The Price

The device is available from Google’s Play Store at only £239. Yes, that for a top range device, is almost crazy. In fact, it is. Which is why, the device has mostly been sold within minutes of every time it has been in stock. It is only now, that it has been surpassed in hardware by the likes of Xperia Z, HTC ONE, Galaxy S4, that you actually see it on the Play Store.

 Root Android

Yes, their is no point going into the advantages of why basic Android is so much better than having a custom UI on top. For one, it gives you full control on how your device looks and feels. Secondly, because it does not have extra software installed, there is more for you to play with. Also, if you do like those UI’s, you can always add them on top of your already existing device.

Photosphere

While you may think Google/Android would publish this to everyone, photosphere, which allows a complete 3D / 360 degrees panorama, is only available on the Nexus 4. We’ll write about it in another post in more detail.

Wireless charging

Yes, a lot of phones these days come with the promise of wireless charging, but very few actually have it built in out of the box. This phone, however does. In contrast, phones like HTC ONE, Galaxy S4, Z10, Xperia Z, iPhone, all either need a special cover, or do not support this feature. You just cannot imagine how awesome it is to come home/go to work, leave this on a mat, and have a 100% battery when you lift it up. Sadly, wireless charger is not included, though they can be bought for a wide range of decent prices.

We’d of course like to thank Three for sending us this phone to try out, and hence write the above! Do visit the Nexus 4 page on their website:
