Based on Farhat Ishtiaq’s novel “Woh Yaqeen Ka Naya Safar” is adapted for screen by Farhat herself for the play “Yaqeen Ka Safar”. Starring Ahad Raza Mir, Sajal Ali, Hira Mani and Sabiha Sumar, the play divides itself into two timelines: one where Ahad’s character, Dr. Asfandyar and Sajal Ali’s character, Dr. Zubia, go through tragedy. And another where both these characters meet and fall in love.

Yaqeen Ka Safar

In the first half of the story, there is trial and difficulty and pain and hardship. It exists in the second part of the story as well but there is a lot of ‘dealing with it’ and some sort of closure that exists for the main characters. The good thing about YKS was also how it involved various difficult sociopolitical themes into its story ranging from gang rape to political mafias to domestic abuse.

The fans also celebrated a YKS party. Did you know?

The journey of this play involved a lot of love and emotion from fans across the world but it also opened up a new template for programming: Pakistani audiences may be ready for ‘seasons’ format of television. That is, they can continue following same characters across various locations and circumstances.

It also gave the Pakistani shippers new “Asher and Khirad” in the form of Dr. Asfandyar and Dr. Zubia.

The very handsome, Ahad Raza Mir.

Even though the fans wanted more to the story of Asfandyar and Zubia – the finale seemed to sum up this story quite adeptly. What do you think? Share in the comments.
