Humax H3 Espresso – the perfect multi-room solution

Having a multi-room solution for your televisions is often a painful and expensive problem to solve. Even with Freeview, which only needs an antenna, you are still reliant on a Freeview player or recorder. The Humax H3 Espresso looks to solve that problem by linking to their FVP range, and streaming media from one central box. This means that one FVP-5000T can link to rest of your home with the H3 Espresso. More so, the device offers you apps, ability to stream media and play Netflix.

Look and feel

The box itself is pretty small and nifty. It comes with a fairly basic remote that lets you navigate through the menus.

Connectivity options are fairly simple and straight forward.

Multiroom setup

The set up is reasonably simple. As soon as you have connected to a network, it picks up the FVP-5000T device and lets you stream content from it.

Usability and performance

The device is great if you already have a FVP-5000T. It gives you multi-room functionality, lets you play programs stored in a different device as well as record programs via the EPG. Without that, it is a much simpler device. Something between a Chromecast and a Roku, this lets you cast your screen to your TV, watch TV via apps and subscribe to them.

The device runs Android OS in the background, though you won’t notice it thanks to its own skin. Reasonably fast, it works as it is supposed to.

Humax have packed in the likes of Netflix and YouTube. Also available is TV Player, a subscription service that lets you stream live television. This is for those who do not have access to an antenna. It also means that if you do not have the FVP, you can simply use this to watch live television. Other apps are also available.
