Yesterday in San Francisco, Microsoft unveiled an exciting new mixed reality headset, namely the Samsung HMD Odyssey. This is designed to bring the physical and digital world together, breaking down the barriers. This Windows Mixed Reality Headset is sure to give users a new view of the creative possibilities that mixed reality vision can bring.

The Samsung HMD Odyssey is designed to provide an immersive experience and Microsoft are aiming to deliver superior picture quality. With this device there is a 110-degree field of view and Dual AMOLED high-resolution displays. On the audio side of things, there are built-in premium AKG headphones and there’s also 6 DOF inside-out position tracking. You can pre-order this item now and it will become available on 6th November 2017.

Also unveiled was the Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset. This one has motion controllers so that when paired with controllers you can use rotational tracking in the device to play and create content. The Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset is available to pre-order now and will come onto the market on 17th October 2017.

If you wear glasses, mixed reality headsets might not have you as excited as everyone else but The Dell Visor has been designed with comfort and convenience for all in mind. The head is cushioned and it also features face padding so that even if you wear glasses, you can still enjoy the experience of this wearable device. It has high resolution 1440 x 1440 LCD panels which offer an authentic 360° panoramic experience.

With its ergonomic design, you can enjoy the immersive experience for extended periods with minimal comfort issues. The Lenovo Explorer tracks movements with superior fidelity allowing you to move around naturally in an area of 3.5 metres by 3.5 metres. This needs no external sensors and can be set up quickly by connecting the cable to your PC.

  1. These are all virtual reality headsets, like the Oculus. For mixed reality, the lenses will need to be transparent so that the real environment can be viewed and augmented with virtual content.

    • I see what you mean Greg and I would agree based on these pictures! However, the press release lists them as “mixed reality” so it will be interesting to see, on their release later this month, how they can be mixed reality with lenses that aren’t transparent.

      • I feel like it is a loose term at the moment. I think the cameras will be exposed on the back of these phones letting you see both what is behind the phone as well as AR superimposed on the image you see.
