Mishiko Collar – the GPS tracking Fitbit for your dog!

I first came across Mishiko a little while back. They are a Russian company that specialises in making dog collars that offer both location tracking as well as fitness tracking. Curious, I decided to get one for my cats. The device is small and light, and definitely looked it on the website. Cats, though, are fussy creatures. Sadly, I couldn’t get mine to play nice with this. Luckily, I have a few friends with dogs, so using this was never going to be an issue.

Mishiko Features

  • Location of your pet within 4m using GPS
  • Geo-location lock – will notify you if your dog runs out of a pre-defined area
  • Will remember last location even if battery runs out
  • Measures dog fitness
  • Bright LEDs to indicate location and charging
  • Waterproof
  • Wireless charging
  • Battery life is typically 2-5 days, based on fitness tracking and app usage. Straight run is around 6 hours.
  • Works worldwide
  • SIM Free, built in SIM for GPS tracking – no need for data or Bluetooth connection with mobile
  • 5.2 x 2 x 4.9 cm, 41gm

Setup

The device is reasonably easy to set up. You take it out of the box and plug in to charge. It takes around 3 hours to fully charge.

Once done, you can pop it on your dog using the collar provided, or even one of your own.

After that, get the app on your phone, and off you go. The process does involve registering which includes entering the serial number of your device.

Ease of use

Apart from charging the device and putting it on your pet, the complete functionality comes to you via the app.

The app offers you the ability to measure your dog’s fitness/daily activity, their location as well as the ability to mark a geofence for them.

The app is reasonably simple to use.

Usability

The first usage asks you to charge the device fully before using. Then, you just put it on your dog and off you go. It will measure and locate your dog as per the instructions. When not in use, you can also take it off to preserve battery life (and spare your dog the extra weight).

Charging is simple, and you just charge it via placing it on top of the charge, with the collar still on it. Of course, if you use your own collar instead, this may vary.

A typical charge easily lasted 3-4 days for us.

The device comes with 8 LEDs dotted around it, which indicate various statuses of the device.

It is also rather handy if you walk with your dog at night. This being summer meant that we didn’t use it that much, but we did go out for one walk and the visibility was rather good.

More information

More information on the Mishiko collar can be found via their website.

It is available with unlimited data (i.e. no subscription) for £149, while a subscription based version is available for £99, with a £4.2 per month charge. Available via online retailers such as Amazon.

At the time of writing, the unlimited data version is available from their website for just £99!

Verdict

I’ll be very honest. Having been around this very hyper puppy meant that there was no doubt about the fitness levels. However, being able to look up your dog’s location at the touch of a few taps is absolutely priceless! While the cost may make you wonder, the new price of £99 makes it an absolute bargain for your peace of mind!
