iMoov Ultimate Ultraportable Device Review

As someone who suffers from back and pelvic problems, exacerbated by sitting for long periods of time in my work as a writer, I find it difficult to maintain a satisfactory level of productivity while staying healthy. I’ve tried standing desks, special chairs and taking regular breaks. One of the best things for me is to switch chairs from soft to hard and keep changing posture, sometimes sitting back, sometimes sitting forward. That makes sitting at a desk difficult so when I was given the chance to try the iMoov Ultraportable Device Stand, I knew this would be a product I would enjoy.

The unique selling point of the iMoov Ultraportable Device Stand is that it is fully portable, lightweight and easily assembled, so it’s perfect for someone who moves around a lot during their working day and changes location. Freelancers and commuters will find this particularly useful since it folds away to the size of a tablet (although not the width of one) and packs snugly into a briefcase.

The folding desk part of this product is called the Astuto. It also has a Bluetooth keyboard called the Teclado. Completing the package is a BagIT bag which comes in either black or grey. There is a cable included for charging the keyboard and an instruction card giving advice on how to operate the desk.

The Astuto is like the futuristic version of one of those folding trays I remember my grandparents having when I was little. The legs open out easily, once you figure out that you have to press the release catches. If you’re smart you’ll read the instructions and know that instantly but I tried to open the legs without reading the instructions and spent a while wondering why it wouldn’t open. The surface of the Astuto has good grip and will cling on to your laptop, or alternatively there are grooves where you can sit your smartphone or tablet while you’re using it with your Bluetooth keyboard.

As for the Teclado Bluetooth QWERTY keyboard, it’s easy to pair with your device. Simply make your device discoverable, request to pair with the keyboard and then type the password in so you’re paired. It charges easily and communicates using blinking lights at the bottom right hand side. There are two grooves in the Astuto where you sit the Teclado to hold it in place.

The BagIT bag is awesome. It holds the Astuto and Teclado and has two front pouches that are just the right size for a tablet and smartphone. There is room for stationery inside as well as some space for other essential personal items. It carries like a briefcase although there is also a strap. I tried the grey version and thought the bag was really stylish.

Overall, I thought this was an awesome product. I loved the Astuto, I loved the Teclado and I adored the BagIT case. I could definitely see myself using this in my everyday life. I’ve always wanted to move around more and since I’m a freelance writer, that option is open to me. The problem is that carrying a laptop around when I already have a back problem is just not healthy. Carrying a tablet and this lightweight stand and keyboard though, would change my life and my productivity levels.

As this is a Kickstarter project, prices have not yet been confirmed but the prices quoted on the site for the trio of products depends on the size of bag you choose. The Astuto is $93 and with the 10” BagIT it will be $136. The Astuto and Teclado together are going to be priced at $140. All three items together will be $183 and there are various other sizes of bag available to view on the Kickstarter page.
