Review: Kitvision Escape HD5 Action Video Camera

When it comes to Go Pro type cameras, there are plenty on the market. We tried the Kaiser Bass X80 last year, and sadly left it at the bottom of the Red Sea. This time, with a lower budget, we thought we’d give the Kitvision Escape a chance. It offers fairly modest specs at 1.3MP photos and 720p camera, but it costs only £44.99. It also packs in a complete set of accessories, meaning you are pretty much good to mount this on whatever you want.

The basic specs can be seen from the image above. As far as look and feel goes, you’d hardly use this outside of its case, so focus on the case itself. A button in front acts as the power key as well as mode, the top is used to take videos, while the two on the left let you go through menus, and the ‘down’ key also lets you take photos. Really easy to use and rather simple interface.

The right side has the micro SD card slot as well as a micro USB port to let you charge this. It takes just over an hour to charge, and the battery can last about 2 hours of video recording, done at intervals.

The accessories that come with the device make it a really attractive item to use.

Sadly though, the picture quality didn’t quite match our expectations.

It is only 1.3MP, so we can’t be harsh.

As can be seen, the conditions are lovely, but 1.3MP just doesn’t make a great photo.

This is a heron. It was eating a lizard. You can’t really see the lizard.

A couple of under water photos.

Once again, the detail isn’t there, but you can see what was seen, and identify fish.

The video sample can be seen towards the end of the video below (around 2:10 in):

More information on this can be found on KitVision’s website. The camera is available from £19.99 from retailers such as Amazon and MobileFun.

While the video and pictures may not impress, I still think this is an amazing camera for its price, specially with the accessories that it packs within its box.
