Review: EyeFi Mobi Pro – Wireless transfer for your photos

eyefi Mobi Pro

EyeFi has already made a reputation in the world of photography by offering its WiFi enabled SD cards, letting users use the power of WiFi to transfer photos quickly across to their PCs, Macs, or even their Android or iOS devices. The new Mobi Pro offers the following features:

  • 16 GB (or 32 GB) Storage Capacity
  • Class 10 Performance / SDHC
  • Wirelessly transfers JPEG, RAW and Video files from your camera to your phone, tablet or desktop device.
  • Choose which images to transfer.
  • Can use both your home/office network, or setup a private network for extra security.
  • All your picture taking is connected in one camera roll
  • Comes with one year subscription of the EyeFi Cloud
  • Comes with an SD Card reader for your PC/Mac

The EyeFi Cloud itself offers the following:

  • Combines photos from all your devices
  • Sync photos between all your devices
  • Edit and organize on any device, online or offline.
  • Automatically identifies and labels each image by subject matter for fast search
  • Store unlimited images and up to 300 videos per month

The device works well and the setup is straight forward. This involves plugging it into your computer and using the desktop app. In case your computer doesn’t come with an SD card reader by default, it packs an SD card reader in the box too. The desktop app allows you to setup various features, including WiFi passwords, any selective image transfer, and more importantly the ability to transfer RAW images. Some of these features may be disabled by default to save you space or network speed, but overall it is fairly straightforward. You will need a computer to make these changes though and the setup.

Once setup, you’re good to go. Images transfer directly to your device via a WiFi connection at home/work or it forms its own connection. The private connection option is particularly good when you are out and about, and do not have the option of a reliable WiFi (or even a bad one). Images transfer straight away, and you can configure whether they do so to your phone or a computer.

The one thing you may notice is that the card comes with a slow transfer speed. It isn’t a total show stopper, but it can be noticeable if you are taking photos in burst mode.

Once the images have been transferred, the apps not only allow you to access and quickly share them, but also allow you view EXIF data as well as make edits.

One of the best features of the apps is the ability to automatically organize all your images based on categories, and you can tweak and add tags to make this even better.

Of course, not stopping there, EyeFi have also thrown in a year long EyeFi Cloud subscription which means you have unlimited image storage as well as the ability to upload up to 300 videos a month. This then allows you to sync your images between all your devices, be it your phone, your desktop, or your tablet. Providing you a completely integrated solution.

More information on the EyeFi Mobi Pro can be found on their website.

It retails for around £39.99 for the 16GB version and around £60 for the 32GB version, both available from various online retailers. Both versions come with 1 year of free EyeFi Cloud subscription, which is worth £34.99 itself.
