Start with throwing away your flashlight, as there are literally dozens of flashlight apps that use your phone’s screen or camera flash to light up the dark. Once you’ve done that, get rid of your tape player as well, as an app like RecForge Lite lets you record audio with your phone’s microphone for free.

Your alarm clock is obviously the next thing to go, because every Android phone already has an alarm clock built into it. But the next one might not be so obvious – your remote control. If you use Boxee or TiVo with your TV, you can download an app that allows you to control them using your home’s WiFi connection, though you’ll still have adjust the TV itself with a traditional remote.

For musicians, you can also chuck your guitar tuner, as there are plenty of apps that help you tune just about any instrument directly from your phone. And while you’re at it, get rid of that old metronome as well, as there’s an app for that, too.
