What is it?
A spray on water-resistant coating for your phone.
Splash is produced by Reviveaphone, a company that has so far produced kits that help you revive phones when they are water damaged. Of course, as we all know, prevention is better than cure, and while this DOES NOT make your phone WATER PROOF, as in you can’t drop it in the pool or take it in the bath with you, it does make it water resistant, meaning it will repel any water applied to it, and should be okay with accidental spills. The solution only promises a year’s life, after which the advice is to re-apply it.
Look and feel
Well, the box this came in is quite small. Almost like eye drops.
This is probably because one box has been designed to be just enough for one smartphone. No indication of use on tablets, etc is written, though with phones pushing the 6″ screen size, you are probably safe with at least 7″ tablets.
Inside the box you find a spray bottle, and a lint free cloth to apply.
How to apply
I will let the team from Splash show you that:
All in all, I applied it on my phone, and the process was simple enough.
What are the results?
Your phone is now water resistant. Not waterproof, but water resistant. It is a bit like having a water resistant (beeswax) coating for fabrics/shoes, which is readily available. However, your main focus here is protection from accidental spills and splashes, rather than anything serious.
I do take my ‘water resistant’ watch in the shower and the swimming pool, but once again, I would still exercise caution.
Once again, Splash have a video to show. I do apologize for not having my own, but I am practising the cautious route here. Yes, water on the surface of my screen seems to ball up, like it does on most water resistant/proof/Goretex style materials, so it does work. The video can be seen from the link below.
More information on this as well as buying information can be found on their website.
So, how much does this extra protection cost? £17.99, per bottle.
There is a very good set of FAQs also available on the website which tell you about the limitations of this.
A small price to pay for some extra confidence as well as protection for a very expensive device. A no-brainer!
