What is it?

This little Bluetooth speaker features a speaker phone, as well as a 4 hour battery life.

Look and feel

The first thing you would notice when you take this speaker out of the box is how much it looks like an old phone out of its cradle. I almost wanted it to have the speakers at the base with a microphone at one so I could use it like that. However, it might just be me feeling a bit vintage!

Anyway, the curved shape apart, the device features its two speakers on the side with buttons and LEDs on top to control and give you various indications.

One side has a microphone hole in it, while the other has the micro USB port for charging this.

Ease of use

Pretty easy. Pairing is very straight forward, and after that you’re good to go. Press the POWER button to play or pause music, while the +/- buttons can be used to adjust volume, and previous / next tracks can be accessed too.

Accepting calls is done by the power button.

Speaker phone function

Pretty standard, pretty basic.

Sound

This being a small speaker, you will never be expected to be blown away. However, I found that it struggled a bit with the bass end of things, and the music was a bit too shrill for my liking. It is, however, quite loud for a small speaker.

More information

The NBS 9 is available from http://www.nakamichi.co.uk and other leading retailers at RRP £49.99 inc.

Verdict

A pretty basic speaker system, at a pretty reasonable price.
