IFA2014: Lenovo have today announced the Vibe X2, what they defined as the world’s first ‘multilayered’ phone. The phone feature both visible layers on the outside, as well as the ability to add extra layers to it, but if you thought this phone was going to give you the ability to change it like a plug in module, you’ll have to wait a bit longer. All that aside, it is a seriously powerful phone, featuring an array of colours and finishes.

It is more than just good looks though. The device features a True8Core processor by MediaTek, which as you may have already guessed, OctaCore. It not only promises better performance, it also runs on extremely low power, giving you extra battery life as well.

Other features include:

  • Android 4.4 Kitkat
  • 5″ FHD Screen
  • 7.27mm thick
  • 120gm
  • 13MP Rear Camera, 5MP Front Camera
  • 4G LTE Connectivity

It also promises an enhanced UI, which reacts to your usage. The lock screen forms bubbles, which are your most used apps, so you can always access your favourite app as quick as possible.

A lot of enhancements come in experience as well. One, for example, is with the camera. You don’t have to now fiddle with the screen and turn on the camera while this amazing photographic opportunity passes you by. With the Vibe X2, all you need to do is take the phone out, hold it in landscape mode, and the camera automatically comes on.

Of course, the buzzword this summer is selfies, and the Vibe X2 shines for that one as well.

The phone adds the ability to both beautify selfies, as well as provide various gestures that will help take your photo automatically. Blink, voice, etc, just to name a few.

Then there is the little matter of Xtensions. This is probably where the whole idea of layers came from originally, but yeah, as you can imagine, and as is visible from the image above, the Xtensions are these ‘extensions’ that add more functionality to your phone.

Two are available right now, one which packs in a JBL speaker, while another that enhances your battery life. These are just the first two of many, according to Lenovo.

I have to thank Intel for sponsoring my trip to IFA this year. This post was done in collaboration with them.
