Review: UNIVERSAL MULTIFUNCTIONAL MOBILE PHONE HOLDER

What is it?

The word ‘Universal’ gets thrown around quite a lot when it comes to accessories. However, for once, I really needed something that was universal. I wanted a device that would hold both my phone(s), as well as a Sat Nav device in the car. I looked around a bit, and this seemed to be the most compatible device. I ordered it and was pleased to find both a suction styled clamp that can be put up in a car, as well as a big metal clip with a flexible arm that can be clipped on to the likes of tables, bed sides, etc.

Look and feel

On first glance, mostly due to its packaging, you think it is more of the ‘cheap and cheerful’ kind. However, the product inside looks and feels good. While I wasn’t really after the clamp, it does add another dimension to the multifunctionality of the whole product.

Overall, the clasp is good, and the inside of the clasp is lined with a plastic that gives you the comfort that it will not scratch or mark any of your products.

Compatibility

So, was it universal enough? Yes. It worked on the iPhone 5S, Galaxy S4 and my old and bruised TomTom One V3. However, I did notice that the TomTom worked better as a horizontal clamp rather than the vertical one as shown in the picture. I found it kept popping out if put in vertically, and that was probably because of the curvy top and the straight bottom. Somehow the clamps also found their way to the SD card slot and kept pushing it out too. Once I figured that I can put it in horizontally, it was pretty good.

Car travel

Since it comes with two attachments, and I was more interested in the car attachment, that got a go first. Using both a phone in it, as well as the TomTom, I travelled over a hundred miles, and found it to stay in, exactly where I wanted. There was a  slight fear that the TomTom may slip out, but it didn’t happen.

Metallic Clip

This isn’t the first metallic clip holder I have tried. They seem to be far and few, but keep popping up on the radar. I guess the market just isn’t there, and it is already an over saturated market as far as docks are concerned. However, it works well, the arm stays as put as it needs to, and overall, one can’t complain.

Verdict

I thought it may not be universal enough for me, but it was. The packaging made me think it may be a bit low quality, but it wasn’t. Overall, for the price you pay, it is a pretty good product!
