What is it?
This spring loaded accessory lets you lift your work station to a standing height on the whim. Spring loaded means that all you need to lift or lower it is the use of a couple of tabs on the side. The surfaces available are big enough to support up to two monitors, and it can withstand up to 18 kg of weight.
Look and feel
When this turned up in the post, I was surprised by how heavy it was. I was expecting something that I could put up on my office desk and be able to adjust height to standing on a whim. I definitely got what I wanted, but I was surprised by how big it was. Thing is, this isn’t just designed to give you a small platform that raises up, it is big enough to support two monitors. The 18 kg limit means that the structure and the spring loaded mechanism needs to be strong enough to support and lift all that.
This means that this weighs quite a lot. A whopping 37 kg in fact, but bearing in mind the fact that once perched on your desk you won’t be moving it much means that this shouldn’t be a problem. Of course, the heavier this is, the more stable your setup would be too, so you need not worry about a wobbly desk.
Overall the look and feel of this is premium. A beautiful black finish greets you when you take off the cover, with a sliding keyboard mechanism on the lower shelf.
A couple of tabs on the side let you lift or lower it, with a few different levels available.
Probably the best thing about this is the fact that it comes pre assembled or setup for use, straight out of the box. No bits to put together, no screws to tighten. This means that when it comes out, it is as solid a setup as you want, and it stays that way while you use it. This gives you the confidence you need for something that may be supporting your very valuable equipment.
Ease of use
Once again, something that is not only stable, but fairly easy to use as well. All you need to do to adjust the height is to depress the couple of tabs on the side and lift/lower the device as required.
A few height options are available, and you can adjust them to as you like.
The keyboard tray can slide in and out as well, as required. A couple of thumb screws on the bottom can be used to tighten it in place.
