Featured Kickstarter: The ARC Plasma Speaker

When was the last time you thought you could use the power of lightning arcs to get your party rocking? What? Never? How disappointing! Electric arcs have been the coolest thing for those of the electric persuasion since the times of Tesla, and they only get cooler every day.

Here is the next big, an actual speaker that uses the power of electric arcs to produce music. Want to find out more? Watch the video below:

Okay, you may not be hitting all the notes, and we have already popped a question to the lovely David (from the video) about the frequency range we expect from this, but hey, if you ever wanted a party piece, you have one in this.

We have also asked them about power requirements, as this may (or may not) be a bit more thirsty than your regular speakers.

So, how much for one of these? Quite amazingly, not a lot.

You have  two options. You can either buy it as a kit, and build it yourself, or get it pre-made. A kit started out at just $89, but all of them are gone now. You can still bagsy one for $99 though.

And if you want it pre-built, you need to pay $199. There is also a $119 model which has a clear top panel to let you see how it works.

Update

We have heard back from David, and he told us that the speaker sounds best at the 500-2000Hz range. For reference, the average human has a range between 20Hz – 20kHz.

Also, the speaker is capped around 80Watts, but typically draws 35-40Watts.
